I have noticed a static sound while I am on my new iphone 4s 😟 Is anyone else having problems or know any solutions?

Thanks

Replacement phones do not seem to fix the static issue. The geniuses at Oak Brook Apple store refused to exchange my phone claiming that no one there has the same issue and couldn't replicate the sound. Went to the Lincoln Park Apple store and they swapped it out for me even though they couldn't replicate the sound. I thought it was fixed until I got home and the same static occurred along with the echo that I didn't have before.

I think it's worth mentioning that certain areas do not make the static sound (Lincoln Park, Oak Brook, Woodfield) but I can hear it on my lengthly commute across from the Northside of Chicago to the Southwest side. Could it be a network issue?

The 20 mile stretch that I frequent gives me static no matter where I am on it. I'm doubting it's a network issue. Anyone on Sprint or Verizon with this issue? I'm sorry if I've missed it in the 293875347329854 comments prior to this one. 🙂

The problem is all over the world and have nothing todo with your network providers.

I have a Norwegian provider and have the static in handset and echo problems when using earplugs (people in the other end get echo).

The static i have goes away when turningnthe handset volume down, echo with earplugs starts 3-5 minutes into calls.

The only improvement I have noticed is when phone runs on EDGE network and not 3G. But that can be a coinsident.

Have two 4S and both have same issue...

I see, well that might be.

As I said I have noticed improvements when outside of 3G network.

Siri also seems to work better on EDGE, compared to 3G for some reason,

but I have not tested this enough to say for sure, not that easy to get out of 3G range these days :)

But when on 3G network, echo in other end when using earplugs, starts every time

3-5 minutes into the call. Using handset seems fine, except some static noice when sound is set loud.

It's not just GSM.

Verizon customers have trouble, too.

Read through the previous pages and they're there.

The static kicks in at another time, too.

Plug in a headset (any headset), go to the security settings and you'll hear static.

I've even heard it sometimes in spotlight... The keyboard shows up and so does the static.

Same problems here. Static, echoing, and distortion - all when using the earphones. It happens sporadically on outgoing and incoming calls - sometimes at the beginning, sometimes a few minutes into the call. Unplugging the earphones usually stops it, but it's very annoying. The Apple store gave me a new set of earphones, but it made no difference - same problems. I'm on AT&T in Salt Lake City. I've never had any of these problems with my iPhone 4, 3Gs, 3g, or original.

same "static issue" here. switzerland with sunrise provider. first i thought it's only when i connect to a specific provider (orange) but then it appeared also with others. but not always.

my first thought was that the membrane of the earpiece might be broken, because it sounded like that when it broke on my 3gs. but since is not continues it could be something stimulating the mambrane from time to time so it vibrates a little causing this noise...
