I am having the same trouble but not always. The static crackling seems to come and go. Hoping for a quick fix!
I just ended a call where I was hear the static.
First the battery issues (This morning, usage: 3hrs 9mins, standby: 3hrs 33minutes and am at 34% and dropping 1% every 4 mins or so), now this static issue. (sounded like a muffled Blackberry antenna sound, low, but very distracting).
I guess I am going to the Apple Store to talk to a genius.
If it means anything, I am in Arlington, VA.
You could take this recording of the static and let the genius listen to it:

I also had the battery issue. Updated to 5.0.1 and turned all iCloud stuff off and now I'm back to 2% decline in 7 hours, so that solved it for me...
I do not have a developer account but I don't think I should have to turn off the iCloud stuff at all.
I am mainly going so that I can have it on record that I had issues.
Plus the chinese food court place in Pentagon City is good ;-)
Thanks alot for that recording. That is what I've been expeireinecing. That and then just little bursts here and there.
Has anyone who went to the Apple Store and replaced their phone actually got one where it isn't a problem?
I already replaced one and don't really want to waste time going in there every couple of days to get a new phone if all the replacements seem to be having the same issue.
From all the threads I have read so far, replacing the phone does not appear to help.
The main reason I am going is if the fixes for it take it past 90 days, I want to be on support record that I had this issue.
No,
I'm on my 4th device and still got the issue
I just tested this out again on a long call.
1. The position in which I am holding the phone does not matter.
2. I did a restore and setup as a new phone. No help.
3. The Audio on the call was dropping intermittently, for about 0.5-1s. i.e I couldn't hear my partners voice, or the static.
4. I realized I've heard a noise similar to this before.
It's VERY similar to the noise I would hear from my 3GS if I had it in this exact configuration; listening to music through a car stereo, the device is plugged into a cigarette outlet USB charger, the battery is at 100%. I would hear a low level, high frequency static coming through the speakers. If I unplugged the device the static went away. It didn't matter which stereo/charger it was being used with.
iOS 5.0.1 beta 2 released. I hope that static noise is definitely gone.
Still exist ...
i'm having the same problem as well.
Yup... having the same problem myself.
Count me in, also strange static sound when calling..
