Static in Iphone 4s

I have noticed a static sound while I am on my new iphone 4s 😟 Is anyone else having problems or know any solutions?

Thanks

Is, was, always will be a problem with the 3G antennae hardware. Software will not fix this issue. I am interested to see how this new patch affects battery life, however. I traded my phone back for the 4, but my girlfriend has the 4S and updated to 5.1 today. I'll write back and let people know if it got any better.

After some time in dealing with these issues, my thoughts are that the drain in battery life is somehow connected to the static noise eminating from the 3G antennae. My reasoning for this is that my girlfriend dropped her phone a few months back and when she did, both the static noise and battery issues were exacerbated by a large degree. I can only assume that they go hand in hand and that these are not separate issues, caused by the same accident.

When you have 3g disabled static disappear, when you are connected to wifi static noises are gone(because when you are connected to wifi network 3g data are disabled) so now I am sure that the problems come from the antenna. 4S has a third antenna on top of the phone and I think , that somehow, is affecting the speaker. How can we make apple to understand that this is a big problem, at least for me?

Ya the update did nothing. I've waited several long months for this update and it was a bust...I always assumed it was hardware though. I have apple sending a replacement, hopefully they've fixed this issue this far into the production.

Disabling 3G is not a fix though, it's a compromise. It's a hardware issue that Apple has to deal with or they're going to lose customers.

Agreed, definitely not a fix, but certainly better for me, because I have developed the habit ever since my iphone 3g to turn of 3G in order to get better battery life.

I was also thinking of a replacement, but reading through this thread.. replacing the iphone doesn't solve the issue and it would be really hard for me to replace since the phone was bough in the US, but I am using it in Europe. Can you please provide some feedback when you do replace it? Curious if they changed something under the hood.

So you are getting static when making a Skype call over 3G?!? Same antenna! I sure don't -- Skype and Facetime are consistently pristine.

For what its worth, the iOS 5.1 update *so far* seems to have improved voice quality and echo and/or audio going mute at one end of the conversion -- the other two bugs, appear to be gone. Earbuds still sounded bad, but I'll have to recheck with a new pair. Of course more use is needed to confirm with any certainty. No, I am not dissabling 3G. I've said it before and I'll say it agian: the bug was/is was the noise cancelling software on the 4S.

Yes, I realize that turning off cellular data is an option, but that is there on 5.0.1, as well. I'm talking about turning off just 3G. Apparently, they added that option back on 5.1, but not for AT&T. Is that true? If you can turn off just 3G, then you can still use 2G. If you turn off cellular data, it turns off 2G, as well, and restricts you to Wifi only. Checking email and stuff like that is not so bad on 2G, if the call quality is improved, in my opinion.
