Q: Static in Iphone 4s

I guess people are still in denial, or haven't noticed it yet cause they don't call as much?

And maybe it's not on all networks?

Can't believe apple didn't catch this in testing, but then again; they didn't get the previous antenna gate either.

Oh don't worry they caught antenna gate and they have certainly read these static posts. As a company, if they address these issues publicly then they have admitted that they F'd up and that's a BIG no no with investors and Wall Street.

That is exactly how this all works.

Also... Remember that Apple has yet to announce that they did anything to address antenna gate, the problem just kind of burned itself out. There was speculation that Apple made some minor tweaks to fix the death grip. If they did secretly make any changes it was just that... a secret.

The first talk of antennas direct from Apple was on the launch of the 4S, they were talking about how the 4S has some new dual antennas to counter the poor reception issue, I don't have the info at hand but I believe it's on apples website.

This is driving me crazy. Tonight, on a 30 minute phone call the horrendous echo kicked in no less than 20 times. The speakerphone trick works but it doesn't last.  I remember watching the Keynote and them talking about the phone having antennas that would switch for better performance.... and I'm wondering if that's what's happening here... The phone switches antennas but there's some kind of bug that creates the horrible interference.

I also agree with everyone that the static is always there. The mic sensitivity is much higher on the 4s. I've tried 5 different headsets (including my rock-solid etymotic hf2s) and they're all the same.

I've had my phone swapped out, restored twice, reset all network settings, and tried disabling everything.

There's no improvement.

I'm afraid I may have to switch to my 3gS until this is all fixed.

I'I'm going to AT&T tomorrow to get a new SIM.

I figure it's worth a shot.

Yeah, I get an annoying acho in the earpiece.

Please complain to Apple, either in store or by phone, to make them aware of this issue.

Ok so Been into apple today and have been given another iPhone 4s no questions asked, which makes me wonder considering this is my second visit for the same problem that there is a fault with all of them. They didn't try a new sim, turning off wifi or anything for that matter. They just gave me another phone same as last time.

I'm a gas engineer by trade and have worked for manufactures and when they have inherent faults in boilers etc that's exactly the way I would be told deal with it. Change part no further testing needed, you always knew what it was before getting there and to stop people making a fuss you just fix it even if it's just for the short term as you know it's gonna happen again, it keeps people from blabbing to press etc.

Anyway on a positive note the new one seems ok for now, I will update when sorry if it goes wrong again!

Do you get a new shrinkwrapped one?

Could it be that all the people that got a replacement so far got a used one (that had been turned in for the same reasons)?

Most of them are new at the moment I think, he assured me it was brand new although not in packaging. There again they would be silly to use packaging on the swap out phones and you don't take the box in just the phone.

I have a problem because I bought my iPhone in UK and now I'm in Poland. Because of EU I have my warranty but Apple in Poland don't want to change my device only send to service a new device. I work as reporter and assume that Apple want good press before official premier in my country. I have no other way and don't have time to fly London or drive to Germany. Greeting from 3rd World, Apple ...

I went back to my old iP4. This is my last smartphone from this company.

Not new. It's a service phone (refurbished). Since the release of iPhone #1 I have received several "service iPhones" and every single one failed in some way or another. If it didn't come out of a shrink wrapped white retail box it's a refurb.

I spoke to Fido yesterday, they refuse to refund the phone claiming its in Apple's hands.

The sound is so loud on ths 3rd iPhone 4S, I don't have a choice bbut to call them and ask for a 4th iPhone.

It is impossible to make phone calls.

Apple has been great about exchanging the phones, but I'm not convinced I'm getting a new phones.  The 2 replacement phones I received had AT & T sim cards in them.

This is frustrating, can't seem to enjoy my new phone.

I am convinced there is a bug in the noise cancelling circuitry.  The next time you are having a static episode, put the iPhone in speaker mode and see what happens, then please report here. 

I was just talking on the phone, with earbuds on -- static+echo.  Switiched to speaker (took several tries, there must be another bug there -- noise gone, echo gone.

The fact that the same phone, same conversation, can be made static free suggest to me that replacing the hardware is a waist of time.  This has software bug written all over it.

Hopefully Apple will fix it pronto.

I went to AT&T today an they swapped out the sim card. Unfortunately the static and echo remain.

The tech at the store was actually able to hear the issues but told me I had to go to Apple to get it fixed even though it was purchased through AT&T.

My only option with AT&T is to completely return the phone. :(

The speakerphone button does stop the echo, but the static and mic sensitivity never go away for me.

I've tried everything.

I've got another Genius appt. on Tuesday. Hopefully I get a good phone this time. :/
