Oct 19, 2011 8:13 PM in response to JamiDianneby AC Rempt,So it's on different carriers with different models. It doesn't matter if you restore, and I don't hear it any other time than when I'm on a call. So what does this tell us?
Sounds to me like a hardware issue with that speaker. Have you all submitted this to Apple as an issue?

Oct 20, 2011 1:12 AM in response to JamiDianneby cgreen_13,Same problem here. It sounds as if the person I'm talking to is in a rain storm. A lot of fuzz and crackling. I reset my iphone 4s and still suffer from the constant fuzzy noise. I also get a echo once in a while.
Is this a phone issue or AT&T issue?
HELP.

Oct 20, 2011 1:16 AM in response to JamiDianneby crwhitesides,I also experience faint static when making calls and it's somewhat annoying after a while. I've also dealt with an echo where I can't hear the person I'm speaking with and can only hear my own voice. I reset my phone and I'm still having the same issues....static and occasional echo.

Oct 20, 2011 5:42 AM in response to crwhitesidesby obone,I bought the 32gb and 64gb versions for my wife and me. I notice white noise in the background when we are calling each other that I didn't notice on our old flip phones. We're using the Verizon network. Hope there is a software fix that will take care of this.

Oct 20, 2011 11:26 AM in response to crwhitesidesby NoOneKnowsMe86,I am in the exact same boat as you. The static is consistent, it doesn't break up after somebody is finished talking.
The echo is there too.

Oct 20, 2011 12:34 PM in response to NapoleonSoloby jcm04h,Okay, I checked out the discussions you posted and ran across this one as well:
My phone is white... now I'm wondering (unless someone already posted this and I missed it)... is anyone with a black phone experiencing these problems too? Does that make a difference at all? I wasn't sure if there were slight design differences between the colors. I had read older material that stated the old iphone 4 proximity sensor wasn't in the same spot as its black colored counterparts....
Any thoughts?

Oct 20, 2011 12:43 PM in response to jcm04hby NapoleonSolo,Mine is also white but check this thread : http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1253782
As u can see, problem is not related to the colour.

Oct 20, 2011 1:38 PM in response to JamiDianneby jlguz,Same problem here, white 32, light static that seems to be louder at times than others. Didn't actually notice it the first few days, but now do on most calls. Quite frustrating.

Oct 20, 2011 3:50 PM in response to JamiDianneby SStephen,I have a black iPhone 4S 32gb and I am having the same problem when I'm on a call. It is faint, but can get really annoying after a while. My iPhone 4 never had any sort of problem like this. I however dont have any echo though, as far as I can tell.

Oct 20, 2011 6:14 PM in response to JamiDianneby mikedemo,I have been having the same issue for the past 4 days I have had my iPhone 4S Black 32GB.
Symptoms are:
1. Faint crackling sound
2. At times during a call echoing starts and gets worse over time. Sometimes it would be me and sometimes the person on the other end.
My unscientific test:
I set the phone in Airport mode but left wifi on, then I streamed a movie trailer and had my earbuds plugged in so the audio would play through them and not interfere with me listening out if the device was crackling. I didn't hear the sound. But when I tried the same with a 3G signal and wifi off, I heard the crackle sound, through the back of the iPhone. Up by the earpiece. Its clear to me that helps to locate what is generating the noise.
My Hypothesis:
Its something regarding the 3G antenna or related components. Possibly a short? Not sure. But I am notifying Apple ASAP.
