Got my 4th phone yesterday and was told the same thing. Static is still there, of course...

Genius-Guy was very understanding and said he could hear the sound aswell.

Don't know what to do, I don't wanna go back to my 3G...

Ok this is a long shot but does anyone having these problems use one of those little rubber plugs to stick in the headphone jack? I'm now on my 3rd phone and the only thing I haven't done is put that back in mainly because I left it in the old phone! I have had it since Saturday, not long but no problems yet :-)

I have to believe that Apple is aware and working on the problem (even if I can't find any announcements or information from Apple anywhere!).  With the volume of these expensive phones being returned...this has to be digging into their profits with the product.

I hope people will not give up on retuning and replacing the phones until they find one that works static/noise free (in spite the unbelievable frustrations and wait times to do so)!!!  The greater (and the sooner) the number of returns grow...the more attention this issue will get...I would hope!

Again the issue for me has never been an echo. What I hear with my 4S when I hold it up to my ear is similiar to what you hear with a CPU unit on a computer. It sounds like new advanced computer chip in the 4S might be the issue here. Whenever I browse the net on Safari or change between applications on my phone you hear it on the phone. It's hard to explain but it's like a little ticking sound in the earpiece of the phone. Has anyone else had this problem? I am on AT&T in NYC and have not had anyone that I talk to on the phone say they can't hear me.

Been doing some more testing, and the echo (stereo like sound)  seems to come more often when im holdin my hand on the left bottom corner of the phone (I'm left handed) when I'm talking to someone. Hardware problem?!?)

    That's what I'm talking about.

Soneone in this thread compared the sound to the ticking of a Geiga-Counter. It dos not come fron the speker,it comes from inside the phone, but you can hear it when putting the phone near your, like when you're making a call.

I'm on my 4th White iPhone 4S and I STILL HAVE THE STATIC CRACKLING NOISE!!!!! My wireless carrier is Verizon Wireless. I have been with them for years and have NEVER had any connections noise issues until my iPhone 4S! The apple store is tired of seeing me probably!

I am on my second 4s and have the horrible crackling noise coming from somewhere behind the earpiece. This is a serious issue, luckily i use bluetooth 90% of the time. This is an issue on all iPhone 4S, just that anyone not complianing doesn't use their phone in a quiet environment so they can't hear it. I have tested it on many 4S phones. The thing is I was unable to reproduce it at the apple store becasue it was too loud. They gave me trouble replacing the phone but eventually did. Didn't matter cause I have same issue.

Same issue here..crackling noise coming from my iphone 4S white. It is a very strange ticking/clicking/static/ geiger counter noise. Its def hardware related. You can just TELL. I exchanged it at the Apple store and the guy said they are aware there is an issue....that was last week so I think it must be more well known now. They replaced it and the new one STILL makes the sound. I'm not on the phone much but it still *****. I really love apple but this is unacceptable. I cant imagine they were unaware of this problem....so many handsets are affected, if not all of them. Yet they put them out regardless.

    Hello,

So if this is a DEFINATE hardware issue your old iPhone 4s made the same noises and the new exchanged 4s does the same thing? have you tried restoring the phon eto new without restoring your backup data make a call and see if you still have that noise, if not the issue is with the backup data.

    Good luck

I'm also having the static issue during calls. 32GB Black on AT&T

Those that have exchanged, are all of you still experiencing the static on the new unit?

Yes, I would call it buzzing not static and I don't think its coming from the earpiece. Occurs when 3g is active
