Nov 22, 2011 11:10 AM in response to nbuububy Matthijst,Yeah, that's the problem: some people don't hear it, some don't care, some don't want to admit it and look stupid cause they paid $700 for a phone that has static and some are just Apple groupies in denial...

Nov 22, 2011 11:11 AM in response to nbuububy BasWind,I also asked two of my friends as well. Both said they weren't having the problem but they did. Both had 16Gb black iPhone 4s's.
Tomorrow I'll receive a replacement. I hope I'll have the same 'luck' as kev26 and there's no static. I don't really have high hopes. Otherwise I'll trade it in for something else than Apple. Really a shame because there's not really an alternative. *sigh*
I'll let you know.

Nov 22, 2011 11:41 AM in response to BasWindby dxironman13,Well mine definitely has it. I returned my first 4s for a faulty earpiece. The girl at the apple store could barely hear that because the mall is so loud, theres no way they'll be able to hear the static. Its faint but noticeable and annoying.

Nov 22, 2011 12:17 PM in response to nbuububy rvinny, funny thing is I don't hear it anymore. For a few weeks it was very prominent and annoying. Now, I have either gotten used to it or it's gone. Probably the former.

Getting the 3rd replacement next week. 2 Colleagues have also this problem, they just don't care :/
Are all iPhones 4s making this noise?

Nov 22, 2011 4:31 PM in response to JamiDianneby tomasz17,Hi,
same problem in Poland ( iPhone 4S ). But here are some observations I have made regarding the " static noise issue " :
1. static noise when 3G data is turned on and the phone is using it.
2. static noise when both 3G data and wifi are turned on ( but the phone is using only wifi connection )
3. NO static when 3G data ( cellular data in settings ) is OFF and the phone is only using wifi.

Nov 22, 2011 5:03 PM in response to tomasz17by arcadiealdea,The only situations where the noise does not occur (my case) are:
- airplane mode,
- no sim card inserted
-
Nov 22, 2011 5:42 PM in response to arcadiealdeaby M.A,Arcadiealdea,
Now try it with just airplane mode...THEN just no sim card. I would but I returned the 4S and bought a Samsung. I am really curious.
I'd also love to see Tim Cook step aside, he isn't getting it done.

Nov 22, 2011 8:34 PM in response to hellomauroby basslines,I just got 2 of my colleugues annoyed today when they found out that their new iphone 4s were faulty. Their ignorance reminded me how the Jaguar car owners were ignorant that their automatic speed cruiser had problems at disengaging or something. Imagine who bears the brunt if they meet with an accident caused by such a device problem. Obviously, Jaguar did not ensure a zero defect car especially on a component that is so important to driving safety. This is the same with apple where the iphone's most important earpiece function is defective with static noises. At least Jaguar did the right thing. They admited the problem and did a total recall.

Nov 22, 2011 8:48 PM in response to basslinesby basslines,oh yes, 2 colleugues who overheard our conversation owns a iphone 3gs and another non apple phone. Thay have just decided to delay their iphone 4s purchases after hearing such a static noise on the earpiece.
They were lucky because they could test the phone before contracting with the Telco.
2 sales may be a very very small percentage to apple but imagine if you get one apple convert from another platform, that person may continue buying iphones once they get used to it. Maybe after hearing about this static problem, they may just buy the Samsung instead. That one lost convert is probably 3 future iphone5, 6 and 7 sales lost. Good job apple! Your Quality Control and Design impacts your sales if you still don't know...Not everyone is a die hard apple lover. You need to buy them over with quality products and not plastic toys that buzz like bees in your ears...

Nov 22, 2011 9:55 PM in response to JamiDianneby shawn126,Yup I have the exact same problem. Static goes from none at all to completely anoying durring a phone call. My 3gs never had problems that were anywhere near this... I took my 4S to the "Genius Bar" today and the guy claims he made 5 calls from my phone to all different carriers but never once heard the static. Im going to have to call BS on that... Not sure what im going to do since it really sounds like getting a new 4S wont get me anywhere but the same situation... I think I will try the finger over the top of the phone trick to see if the static goes away. At least then maybe I will have shred of hope that the problem can be fixed with some magic software update.

Nov 22, 2011 10:11 PM in response to shawn126by mitchellfromripon,When are they going to fix this static issue? Verizon is my carrier, I've gone into the Apple store and returned my iPhone 4S four times and I still have static noise while I am on the phone. And if there's silence between myself and the person I'm talking to you can really hear it bad!!
-
Nov 22, 2011 10:47 PM in response to mitchellfromriponby nbuubu,I was just on the phone with Applecare about another issue (4S refused to sync, and refused to restore ... once wiped it took 3 reboots for Apple to verify it eligble for a restore) and the CSR said he's had several calls about the static issue, and that the guy right before me was calling about it.
He said that when I was talking he could hear static on his end, faintly. He said he expects an update for it soon, but he was just guessing.
Apple is definitely hearing about the issue.

Nov 23, 2011 3:12 AM in response to JamiDianneby niteshawk,Just called Apple Store and they said that they are really working hard on this issue, replacing with new iPhone probably won't solve the problem, so they asked me to wait in patience. I hope they are really on it.
Can anyone really confirm that static problems is reduced / solved by using iOS 5 instead of iOS 5.01 ?
Any official link from Apple to download iOS 5 ?
