Nov 27, 2011 1:23 AM in response to JamiDianneby m4sheikh,I have this weird problem with my brand new iPhone 4s.
When making or receiving calls, I can only hear my voice echo and the other party cannot hear my voice at all which basically means the mic does not work at that time. It's very annoying and it's happening after every 2-3 hours. I try to turn on/off the speaker phone but it doesn't work.
Please note this is not a static but an echo problem. And the only solution is to restart your phone! It's definitely not network related because my wife is using a brand new iPhone 4s and she's connected to the same tower and hasn't experienced the problem once!
So here's the step by step summary:
1) I dial a number and can't hear the bell
2) The other person picks up the phone and it says connected on my phone (time counter begins)
3) Whatever I say I can hear back in the form of echos and the other person is clueless about what I'm saying
4) I restart the phone and dial the same number and it works fine!
Please help!

Nov 27, 2011 1:29 AM in response to Spicynatby niteshawk,Most of iPhone 4s has static problem. I've returned mine yesterday, got new one but it is all the same, the static is there, going to return it again. I am waiting until Samsung Nexus is released and switch side, or stay with iPhone 4s if Apple fixes the problem.
I've seen 3 iPhone 4s with static problem, never seen any which does not have static. I believe the rate of defect iPhone 4s is really huge, it is 100% for my case. Replacing it again and again just cost too much of my time and money.
Last time talked with Apple Store and they said Apple is aware and working on it.. but how long ? should we wait until fall next year when they releae iphone 5 ? yeah.. they solve the problem with iPhone 5.
I really see Apple is in declining phase, we will probably see Apple is struggling like Nokia in next few years.

Nov 27, 2011 6:21 AM in response to JamiDianneby b0gdan,Same problem here. I'm on vodafone and a have the 4s 16gb white.
If I disable the cellular data no static sound. I think this is a hardware issue interference from the data traffic with the audio part of the earpiece( no shielding cheap components used etc) very disappointed.!

Nov 27, 2011 6:27 AM in response to JamiDianneby romanfromhamburg,I've had this problem from the beginning (Okt. 14th). Got a new one from Apple 3 weeks ago, but it stayed the same. A friend of mine has his 4th 4S with no improvement. I'm really missing my 3GS. When is Apple going to solve this issue? Compared to staticgate is antennagate nothing, because i can't solve it by holding the IPhone in another way. I'm quite disappointed as a big Apple fan.

Nov 27, 2011 3:05 PM in response to JamiDianneby Plasqo,Same problem in Italy with Vodafone. This is the third iPhone, all with static problem in call. When I am in a "2g network" I hear static, in a "3g network" I can't hear it. I try different sim cards (other operator): same result!

Nov 27, 2011 5:32 PM in response to Plasqoby M.A,WOW PEOPLE!
This is really becoming a HUGE concern for everyone BUT Apple. Take the piece of $hit back and get a Samsung for now and then all let's hope if or when an iPhone 5 comes out it won't have this static issue.... Probably a whole new set of issues though.. LOL.
IN THE WORDS OF THE LATE STEVE JOBS, TAKE IT BACK!!!

Nov 27, 2011 6:39 PM in response to M.Aby basslines,It could be such that Apple is even more concerned than us. They could be trying to fix the problem via a software update but unable to if it is determined as a hardware issue.
They could solve it in the next iphone release - iphone 5.
Either that they could just update the hardware quietly at a later stage for the later batch of iphone 4Ss
I'm already kind of fed up with all of this. Buying a phone was meant to be a happy experience. Instead it left a bad aftertaste. Apple should learn what experience economy is all about.

Nov 27, 2011 10:52 PM in response to Plasqoby b0gdan,Hey Plasqo,
What do you mean a 2g network and a 3g network because on the iphone 4s you can't deactivate 3g !?
-
Nov 28, 2011 12:27 AM in response to b0gdanby Plasqo,If I am in a place where the 3g is absent (data cellulare always activated), I hear static, while in a "3g place" I can't hear it.

Nov 28, 2011 12:30 AM in response to JamiDianneby - fabius -,My 4S makes static noise at home... with WIFI.
It seems that the static is present in all conditions

Nov 28, 2011 12:37 AM in response to - fabius -by John Cho (South Korea),I just go back from Apple, received a new replacement... surprise surprise, the static is still there. While I was getting my new phone setup, I asked the Apple technician about the static problem and apparently he has had a fair amount of people come in reporting the issue - he told me that Apple were aware of the problem and were working on a fix... let's hope he's wasn't bullsh*tting.

Nov 28, 2011 2:01 AM in response to John Cho (South Korea)by basslines, the guys at Apple store represents apple and will only communicate when told. So if they did say that apple's fixing the static problem, it should be quite reliable. Let's hope for the best.

Nov 28, 2011 2:31 AM in response to agollapudiby stimpy9226,Do you hear this static noise only when making phone calls and the earpiece held to your ear? If so, have you upgraded to iOS 5.0.1 and noticed if there is any difference?
Do you hear this static noise when on a call, using the Apple headset?
Interested to hear your experience. -Stimpy9226.

Nov 28, 2011 2:45 AM in response to JamiDianneby Plasqo,I think it's a software bug, an antenna switching problem. Sometimes if I link the antenna in the lower left the static is reduced.
