Seems like Apple is not able to solve this issue with software update.

And they even don't want to admit this problem.

I have a feeling, Apple wants us to just deal and live with this problem.

Replacing with another iPhone 4s surely doesn't help. Static error free iPhone 4s seems just like an illusion, which never exists ?

Can we somehow sue Apple for this ? I've wasted a lot of my time and money for this.

Outside of these forums it is all too quiet on this issue.

The fact that people around the world are returning defective units and receiving new defective units over and over again means this is not some small isolated issue limited to a few unfortunate buyers.

Somebody needs to contact the mainstream media to do an expose` on this one.  Since Apple is protecting itself by remaining quiet on the issue, they have left the consumer no choice but to seek the largest megaphone available to shame them into action.

Enlisting market-centric or news syndication services would be great: Bloomberg, AP, CNBC, etc..

Anybody know a young journalist that wants to blow the lid off the scale of this problem by collecting some real world data?  All you need is a doctor's stethascope and a notepad to tally failure rates.  Spend a few days hunting units and collecting data.  If the numbers are as I suspect (a vast percentage of handsets are affected) then file the report (or spoon-feed it to a news organization) that will be heard round the world.

Or.. Maybe get those guys at the iPhone tear-down site (iFixit/iSuppli) working on the issue.  They'll take the phones apart straight-away and isolate what's going on.

thats a fantastic idea and exactly what i've been proposing earlier today. I already contacted a friend of mine that works for dpa to inform him about the issue. I'd like you gtown-nick to get in contact with ifixit

Contacted "SlashGear" on this matter and about the "Call" issue as well.  Unknown if they will do an in-depth review of this and report it to the readers or not.

thanks for your support! I just noticed some weird behavior about the static noise and need to verify it.

but so far: when covering the iphone on both sides with my hand - not just two fingers -  the static completely disappears during a call. i already reproduced this in two completely different locations while calling both a landline and a mobile phone on the two occasions. please test this out

call someone and just hold the phone with a few fingers. static shoud be there.

then use a tight grib with your hand while on the phone. static gone !

sry for the bad gramma but i am in a real hurry here.

I sent feedback to Apple and edited the wikipedia page to reflect this problem.

I will soon write to engadget also, usually they like to give Apple bad publicity

It seems that at least for now Apple is not taking things seriously about this...

Spread the word people! Let the world know about the "perfect" Apple handsets!!!

    I wrote them too!

In my opinion apple knows everything but they don't want to take the risk to loose million of sales so they are trying to ignore it as far as they can.

We'll see how long they can act like that...

Please guys don't give up! I replaced my 4S 5 times already and i'm terribly bored but if we stop they'll win!

BTW, a genius told me they were aware of the issue and that an internal note (that he was'nt aload to show me) was saying that they were working on a new firmware to fix it, not on a new OS... The problem is coming from the phone and not from the OS... He told me to be patient and that it will come soon (He told me that 3 weeks ago), don't know if he was sincert or if he was a lyer... Time will tell...

    Good luck!

Keep spreading the word. I have been a supporter for Apple since the original iPhone came out. I was waiting for the iPhone 5 but had to get the 4s. So many Apple fans have not been happy with Apple and now having to deal with a brand new phone with static issues is terrible. BUT Our efforts are not going to fail. Check out an article by BGR regarding static issues. Apple can't keep hiding from it now. http://www.bgr.com/2011/11/29/static-bug-plaguing-iphone-4s-users-could-be-hardw are-issue/. Has anyone read any other articles addressing this issue? Any other updates regarding Apple addressing this yet?

Siri is in beta testing. In simple words, she got the cold. Apple will take it off and on so they can tweak Siri so she is perfect. Don't worry - she will come back. You are not the only one with this problem. Apple understands this is an inconveninse; however, they must do this to perform updates for the better. Good luck and enjoy.

The BGR's article is a big first step. I recall it was made possible because someone here wrote to them about our problems.

Please do the same: It's the only way Apple will ever acknowledge the bug. And writing a few words to several blogs and websites only take some minutes of your time. Far less then getting angry over this bad situation again and again. Far less then driving to the Apple store and get a faulty device over and over again.

And those blogs and news pages are very happy to get some input from their readers. Believe me, I write for some of them

Just insert a link to this discussion for reference and maybe mention the Buy Genius Report's article so they see that other's are covering the issue as well.

    Thx to everyone !

I went to BGR yesterday and was surprised to see no articles on this issue. So I looked at the editor page and found Zachary epstein and emailed him personally. today there's an article on BGR regarding the issue. That's one person sending one email to one person. Imagine what kind of media attention this would receive if everyone in this forum sent an email. I've included my transaction with mr. Epstein for all those that think I'm making this up. keep at it guys. This isn't acceptable, so we shouldn't accept it! Send your email to an editor today. Feel free to copy and paste what I wrote to mr. Epstein. That seemed to work.

Thanks Luke, I'll definitely check it out.

    All the best,

    -Zach

I was very surprised that I didn't find the above subject on BGR website. I usually find the real electronic scoop here. Anyway, I'm writing to bring some attention to the fact that almost wery iPhone 4s has a crazily annoying static in the earpiece that occurs during calls. it sounds a great deal like your PC on startup. Not conversation-preventing but unacceptable for a 200$ phone that receives such accolades. As you can see by the link on apples forum it effects many iPhones worldwide, and replacements and software updates hasn't helped. It seems hardware related. and although the forum consensus is questioning why apple isn't aware of it, I think theyre very aware. And that the only answer is a recall. Thanks Bgr

I think a firmware update can fix the problem. Tomorrow I'll call Apple to verify if there will be an update. If someone can call now, we can get information faster (in Italy is 20:38).
