Different factories, different production weeks, same problem.

My mother's 50€ Nokia phone makes no static sound..

Do Apple test their phones before starting production?

    found interesting article:

    http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/tech/2011/11/133_99359.html

An Internet cafe called ``iPhone and iPad user community’’ has conducted a poll concerning ``noise-gate’’ since November 12.

Eight out of 10 respondents said that they experienced noise-related problems on their iPhone 4S.

An official from one of the local Apple partners said he can’t officially respond to the issue and added he was being told by Apple that it will offer a software update, ``soon.’

``As far as I know, Apple has admitted that the iPhone 4S is troubled with hardware-related problems and ``noise-gate’ is one aspect. Yet Apple still believes that this is not critical enough to directly deteriorate call qualities,’’ added the official.

The official also declined to be identified as he wasn’t given the right to officially speak to the media.

Apple officials at the firm’s after-sales centers have been looking into the latest problem.

``For me, Apple is a bully. It’s losing entrepreneurship. It seems quite evident that Apple is regarding Korean consumers as a `testing-tool’ for its devices, which is ridiculous,’’ said Ham So-young, a 27-year-old graduate student in Seoul.

I got yet another replacement 2 days back and the static was worse. Sigh. It dropped the call twice at two locations. The previous phone had lesser static sound but dropped calls like 6 times in a morning. May be a bad reception or location but my 3 gs worked ok.

I am meeting some apple and telco guys tomorrow to check the iPhone 4s. I hope I can resimulaye the static there and call drops which is unpredictable. I hope the wont label me mad for hearing something they can't hear.

I almost took the route of returning the phone for a refund but guess what - I just bought a Tom Tom iPhone holder. So I may have to live with this iPhone static gate until apple finds a solution for it.

Sent the following letter to Apple, and cc'd the Los Angeles Times. Feel free to use it as a template.

    Apple
    Customer Relations
    1 Infinite Loop
    Cupertino, CA 95014

    Dear Apple Customer Relations:

I was very excited to upgrade from an iPhone 3S to an iPhone 4S.

However, immediately after purchase, I knew something was wrong. When I spoke on the phone, I’d hear a crackling sound that disrupted my calls. To hear what it sounds like, go to this youtube video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJeb2jkMsBc.

I called Apple support, and they made several recommendations which did not work. Thinking it was a hardware problem, I exchanged the phone the next day, but the problem remained. I spoke with Apple support, who said they had not heard of the problem, and I tried everythingwith them: restoring and resetting the phone--nothing worked.

I researched this matter online, and it turns out there are many people suffering from the problem, and according to a discussion on Apple Support Communities, there are many angry consumers who believe this is a hardware problem and that Apple is ignoring it. It seems like there was a bad batch of phones.

I’m really upset because I was a newfound loyal Apple customer; I’m not so loyal anymore. I bought the phone to make my life easier; this whole matter has added to my workload. I have no time to keep talking with Apple support (I tried again to no avail) or to keep replacing my phone. I’m discouraged from using my phone because the sound is irritating.

Please let me know that you have received this letter and let me know the solution you suggest. Since I believe it is Apple’s responsibility to provide a working product, I’d like to leave the burden on you to find a solution with limited inconvenience to me. I’d be willing to exchange for a standard iPhone 4 if I must, with the appropriate refund. If you recommend a replacement, please ensure this problem doesn’t exist on the new phone.

By this letter, I’m alerting my local press about what seems to be a widespread problem.

I give up! Went over to change my phone. Open 1 and there it was the static sound there even when you're surfing on safari. Proves that the sound is not voice related sound but data downloading/uploading sound of a chip. What chip is this???

Open the 2 box there and thought there was no sound but alas, there was.

Apple, you won the battle! The only company I gave up trying to fix a problem was Proton. My car had a ticking sound when I rev the car. Went to the service centre and they tried fixing and finally said "all proton cars have the same problem"

I'll keep the phone because it's not all bad. Their software interface is good. But why can't the hardware be excellent too?
