Jan 10, 2012 9:52 AM in response to Matthijstby tundres,You are right, I didn't got that part...sorry.
Anyway, let's hope Apple can solve this issue. It's seems to me that with the 3g switch they are working on the right direction.

Jan 12, 2012 9:24 AM in response to JamiDianneby Krlj,I am having the exact same problem when I get called or call someone (which is a huge problem on its own). The noise is very faint though, you can't hear it when you are talking but when you get a pause in the conversation, you can hear the static noise very well. I don't get it, why am I always having issues with iPhones (both 4 and 4S) while other Apple products and by other manufacterers work flawlessly for years.

Jan 12, 2012 1:23 PM in response to JamiDianneby Studeman,My first iPhone 4S had its production week 42/2011. A lot of static noise in the earpiece, during calls. New microSIM from Norwegian operator Ventelo.
Hoped waiting a few weeks and then get a recently produced phone would help this out. Recieved the new phone yesterday, production week 52 / 2011 with the same if not worse symptoms...

Jan 13, 2012 9:11 AM in response to Studemanby ivoalex,I am inclined to think just as Matthijs has assumed: by putting back the 3G-2G toggle switch Apple will try to solve the problem under certain scenarios (i.e. the device working in 2G radio mode). It may be that they have found it was a hardware flaw of some components of the SoC, so it wouldn't be possible to solve it by any software, as well as it is unthinkable Apple would withdraw millions of problematic iPhone 4S's and exchange them with new (redesigned) ones that would not exhibit the problem...

Jan 15, 2012 4:09 AM in response to JamiDianneby Kinst,The really strange discussion especially concerning one-by-another replacements with the same issue. I'm personally replaced 5 iPhones (camera-no audio-buzzing vibro-battery-the last one is perfect). And also I bought one another for my friend. I'm always use 3G, wifi. That iPhones was used in three different countries by four different carriers. The production weeks was 42, 49, 51. The color was either black and white. But I never meet the static issue. I know what is mean because one from 20 calls begins with static noise, not loud and it always stops when a party pick up the phone and conversation begins. But the same static from time to time I hear with all mobiles I ever owned - from cheapest Nokia to last modern HTC.

Jan 15, 2012 5:33 AM in response to Kinstby Kepin,My last Nokia 5700 and HTC Hero didn't have this issue... I've never heard static noise on both phones. Are you sure your 4S is perfect? Because I've returned 3 phones already with 3 different production weeks (last one from the 51)

Jan 15, 2012 5:48 AM in response to Kepinby Kinst,Yes, I'm sure for 100%. Complete clear background. No even smallest noise. And all iphones was the sam - i was noticed about static before thus i paid attention.
But when I told about experienced this noise On other phones, I mentioned very rare and short in time noise - one call from tens and for couple of seconds before dial tones.

Jan 15, 2012 1:53 PM in response to Kinstby romanfromhamburg,I'm all fed up with this s..., just had a 20 min conversation and the static was as bad as ever. A really loud static sound like i would be holding the iphone beneath some plugged in speaker. Paying 850 Euros for a phone which i can only have a decent conversation when using my becker car handsfree is just not appropriate.

Jan 15, 2012 2:30 PM in response to JamiDianneby applepup,I admit it took me a while to notice this 4s issue because:
a) I use Bluetooth for converastions almost all of the time.
b) I'm connected to data via wi-fi most times, which eliminates the 3G data noise chatter.
c) I use the speakerphone audio when listing to voicemail or HeyTell messages.
But I admit, when solely on a 3G connection I can hear digital data transmission noise through the earpiece, so it's obviously 3G data chatter. I don't remember it being an issue with the iPhone 4 - just the 4s. Is this strictly a 3G GSM thing? I ask because there shouldn't be any stray signal noise when on a 3G iPhone 4s call using CDMA networks, as you can't be on a 3G call and use data at the same time. If my theory is correct, Verizon and Sprint iPhone 4s 3G calls should devoid of the "earpiece static" issue. Can anyone confirm this? Seems like most people complaining are AT&T or GSM customers. I'm one of them. I have the white 64GB on AT&T.

Jan 16, 2012 1:46 PM in response to applepupby Spicynat,Hello everyone, I'd like to add something hoping it will help some of you a little. I've noticed that if I close the background apps the static is less loud. Just in case you don't know how to make it: press main menu button twice so you will see all the apps that are open in the background then you press and maintain on any app, then you close them one by one. I know that it's not a solution but in my case it helps. It's just annoying having to close the apps all the time.

Jan 17, 2012 5:48 AM in response to JamiDianneby Ahmed Karim Tawfik,I am from Egypt and I just got my iphone 4S and I am really disappointed. I have this static noise whenever I make a call. Wondering if this is a problem with my phone or a general problem with all 4S. I need to know if anyone has exchanged his 4S with another one that does not have this prolem.

Jan 17, 2012 5:54 AM in response to Ahmed Karim Tawfikby - fabius -,I follow this thread since the first post.
I just can say... if the static noise is really a problem for you, and you are within 15 days, you should return the phone and get your money back.
Otherwise, if you are satisfied of the overall behaviour of the phone, wait for an update.
Unfortunately,so far, there's not a solution to cancel the noise.
No one knows if next iOs 5.1 update can solve the problem

Jan 17, 2012 6:55 AM in response to - fabius -by shero89,Well the problem in Egypt is that we don't have apple stores so returning & getting a replacement is difficult

Jan 17, 2012 8:39 AM in response to JamiDianneby SVMini,Received my 7th iPhone 4S. Yes, I did say 7. All without exception have had the same issue, although I must admith that on the 6th iPhone 4S, the isssue was much better. On this 7th one the issue is so bad that it makes it hard to make a call.
On my last exchange I was told by the Apple rep that: "Apple is fully aware of the issue and has placed a capture order on all iPhone 4S displaying the buzzing static issue". Its great to capture them, but if Apple sends me a replacement that displays worse symptoms, its not better.
ITS AN 850$ PHONE, WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE PHONE CALLS WITH IT !!!!
I refuse to give up beleiving that they will not solve the issue and will keep producing a faulty product. I got the product the very fist day it was out back in October, its January.
