    Hey mechie8682

Not sure what she meant by capture order, but when i explained to her that the phone i was sending back was the best amongst 5 others, she insisted i send it back.

So I got my 3rd iPhone and it still has that noise, but it is so minimal that I can live with that, the two others were really bad, I could not talk normally because of that noise, the 3rd one is OK, I had in my 10 calls maybe 3 sec alltogether of that noise. I think I won't replace it again... I like my iPhone too much:)

And the problem has been solved!!!!

I've got some bad news for me and some others out there. According to @Matthjist, turning off the 3G helped with the static/crackling. Well, my friend jailbroke his 4s and now has the ability to turn off 3G. So, I turned off his 3G and made multiple calls and the static/crackling sound was louder. Tried calls on 2G and 3G to compare. What's weird is that the total volume seemed louder on 2G, as well. Unfortunately, turning the volume down does not affect the volume of the static/crackling, only the call volume. I did verify that it was on 2G when it was supposed to be and vice versa.

The thing is, if turning the 3G off solved the static issue, one could jailbreak, in which you could force the phone to make calls on 2G, but have selected apps run in 3G. This would be a solution for me and I would jailbreak in a heart beat, if making calls on 2G solved the static problem. Which it didn't, at least on my friends. So, I don't see that there is any solution, unless exchanging the phone will get us one that doesn't have the static/crackling in the first place (but, seems like people are getting multiple handsets in a row with the static/crackling).

If anyone else has been able to make calls on 2G, please, let me know what kind of results you're getting. I'd be curios to know if it is only my friends' 4s that gets worse static/crackling while on 2G. It will help me make a decision on what I should do with mine.

Forgot to add: was in Hong Kong a while ago and you could choose which network to use there; 3HK or 3HK(2G). The 2G one had no static, the 3G did.

In most countries there's no separate network to choose from, but you only choose your provider (so 3HK) and then the phone switched accordingly on that network.

Same here , Orange network RO , 4s white 16gb . The static buzz noise is not that loud but knowing it's there is pretty bothering me regarding the phone's price and getting a new contract for it especially . I don't get the sound everytime , tried different things like 3g off , wifi on off , still on old 9a405 . Hopefully next updates will solve the issue if it's not a hardware problem and then apple has -1 from my pow otherwise in 11 months i'll return it and get a new one . No other issues like yellowish or vibrating problems untill now , i really love my phone and would not want to exchange it for another one with any other problems .

    And that's that?

Keep taking phones back until you get a "good one"?

This is unacceptable. But you people are as guilty as Apple.

I would of taking it back 1 time and went elsewhere.

But like good little fanboys you keep going back, hoping you luck out this time and get something that actually works.

    What a joke.

Would you take a brand new car back 5 or 6 times till you got one you like?

And don't bother replying with "you can't compare a vehicle to a phone"

Yes I can, when a large amount of money is involved. Same as a car.

Confuscious say: "If you look at the road ahead, you won't see the bugs on the windshield."

This static issue drove me nuts for about the first month of having the phone. I quit thinking about it and honestly don't hear it anymore.

The static issue on the iPhone 4s has been a known issue since shortly after the release. I've returned 4 new iPhone 4's and everyone of them have the static problem. Verizon wireless is my carrier which has always been crystal clear! I'm getting ready to make a FIFTH appointment with one of the super smart engineers at the apple store that's in my area. The 5th time is a charm right? Hahahahaha. It's sad because iPhones are so popular and everyone loves them, but yet Apple won't own up to all the bugs and get them RESOLVED before the new iPhone 5 is released????? I pray that the new iPhone 5 isn't buggy like the 4's!

This is crazy... I can't deal with my phone buzzing in my ear when I make a phone call.  I am trying to get a downgrade to an iPhone4... but I can only get an 8GB! I can't go from a 32GB to 8GB.

I would like to know if this all iPhone4s or most or some.  This way I can make a better decession wether or not I chould downgrade or try a new one.

I just switched from ATT to Verizon and from a 3GS to a 4S and I did not have the static problem with the 3GS on ATT but do have the static problem on the 4S on Verizon.  I have not had my phone a week.

This didn't work for me.  It appears that the static is worse when I call certain telephone numbers.

Hmmmm.  You get the digital chirping background noise on a Verizon 4s while on a call??? Now I'm stumped.  I thought the 3G antenna noise was data transfer over 3G, but since you can't be on a Verizon (or Sprint) phone call and transfer data at the same time unless you're on wi-fi, you have me stumped.  Maybe the faulty noise is just the new dual antenna frequently checking for the best signal.  Either way, it's certainly a design flaw that needs to be addressed.  Thanks for the update.

This is annoying, Initially I thought I had a problem in my right ear, as often I heard the noise when held the phone right, but now looks to be a geniune problem. I use 3G, never tried turning it off.

Do you guys think exchange phone will help ? or the issue persists in all ?

It must help. I was using 5 different iPhones 4s and no one has ANNOYING static. Every unit has, but like my present one: you can hear this very small noise only when you AT THE SAME time got a active transmission of the 3G data. All other time the conversaton is crystal clear.

This mean, in my case, that you almost never to be disturbed by this static. And even when it's exist (you started to open heavi page or receive a big e-mail and at the same time somebody call you) it's very small to be even "sensible".

    So, try to exchange.
