Itunes could not check for an update to the carrier settings for your iphone. An unknown error occurred 1635

Please, any suggestions why I get this error when I try to synch with Itunes? I have manually inserted the APN details (proximus in Belgium) and still it does not work.

For me the solution was the re-install of iOS 5 (don't worry, you will not lose data, only time ;-))

  • First, put you iPhone in flight mode (makes the 1635 error go away, temporarily)
  • Then connect your iPhone to iTunes
  • Check that your latest back-up (reservekopie) is recent, if not, make a new one.
  • Then click the repare-button (herstellen).

A repair with the newest version of iOS 5 will be executed. You can then choose to put back the data from your back-up (reservekopie).

It worked for me...

(Previous results are no guarantee for the future ;-))

Hi Budapest, here Belgium.

I did post it to msmac@apple.com.

This is the emailaddress for itunes software issues.

This is the 'answer' i've got, but untill now, but it is not a solution.

I wrote back it was not a solution.

I tried a restore again today (as suggested by Steven H. above), but it did not help for me.

I also went back to where i've bought my iPhone (Mobistar, Leuven, Belgium).

And they send me to Apple. I must say they were not helpful at all. They told me 'Ask Apple, not our problem.

So he advised me to call AppleCare, i did and they've send me back to msmac@apple.com.

I've send an email back.

Turning around.

In all my life, i may have bought more than 50 Apple products. I never experienced a problem i could not solve.

Hey Apple! I'm waiting for a solution. I'm not used to this kind of service from Apple.

Hiya all

do you think that IOS 5.0.1 will solve this, an other funny thing is, that when I have first installed my ios 5.0 to my officially unlocked iphone 4, and put there my Hungarian sim card, I have had a new version of the carrier logo, and then I went back to germany changed the sim, and when I went back to hungary the new logo was gone

strange

iTunes could not check for an update to the carrier settings for your iPhone. An unknown error occcured (1635).

Same error message here (Flanders, Belgium) since I installed iOS5.

It persists after updating to 5.0.1 today.

Is this really a problem though? My carrier shows up in the settings and I don't have problems accessing the telephone network, WIFI, or 3G.

Yes,Even i got the same problem with Iphone 4 after upgrading to iOS 5 and later on i was realized that due to Non-US or Other countries stores following error is accruing (1635) and got the solution for it.

While trying to plug/upgrade your iphone plz remove your SIM and try it - It will work.

Regards

Anjani.

Laszlo,

if you do the update on the iPhone itself, it updates with a 38MB update file. This is very quick.

BUT it has a disadvantage compared to updating via iTunes: When you update your device via iTunes it leaves the complete iOS file (700MB) in username/library/itunes/iphone software updates. This means that you can restore.

If you update on the device and connect to itunes afterwards, there is no iOS file anymore: gone to the Trash.

Itunes could not check for an update to the carrier settings for your iphone. An unknown error occurred 1635
