How do I use Siri to make calls using *82 to unblock my restricted number

I just upgraded, very happily, from a Droid X, to the iPhone 4S.

On my droid I made two separate contact lists, for example one of my contacts may have read something like this:

John Doe

Home: **********

Jane Doe

Mobile: *82**********

So when I called John he would see an unknown caller, but Jane Jane would see its me.

I just touch the appropriate widget.

Now on the iPhone 4S I enter the same, and when I use Siri, "she" can call John no problem, but when I ask Siri to call Jane, Siri can't seem to place the call.

Of course I can touch the contact and it will call no problem, but in order to go total hands free and take full advantage of Siri, I would have to always call with my number being blocked.

Does anyone know of a way to use Siri to dial a number using *82 so I can reveal my number to whom I choose?

I have tried all kinds of combos using area codes, dialing a 1 first before area code, no area code even using the 'wait' button so it looks like *82;**********, but still have not figured it out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I noticed the same issue last week and have not been able to find any information online. I have "*82" in front of the number in the "phone" field and use the ten digit number (without "*82") under another field (e.g. "pager"). This way, I don't have any issues with displaying my number when making calls or sending text messages. I think my old Blackberry wouldn't send a text to the number that contained the "*82", so that's why I had to start putting the ten digit number in a different field. If there is no remedy for this, we will either have to not use SIRI to make calls or unblock our lines and remove the "*82" from all of our contacts.

I am having the same challenge. I have overcome part of the *82 problem. Instead of asking to call the number, I ask Siri "What is the number of John Doe?" The response will show the number including the *82 and I simply push that number. It does not make it 100% hands free but very close.

The second issue about not seeing who is calling, from my list in contacts who have *82 in caller ID can be gotten around by listing the number two times in the contact information, once with the *82 and a second time without. This way I am able to see who is is calling.

Granted this one issue is not ideal and definitely not what I expected from Apple but I love this phone and am truly beginning to appreciate Siri and all that she does. I This will make it work until the engineers fix the true problem of Siri not recognizing *82 numbers. I feel it will be a short inconvenience until they correct it.

I have had a rather lengthy conversation with Apple tech support in this issue and they confirmed Siri can only dial out number that consist of 10 digits. Any other number cannot be dialed out from Siri!

I am in Sri Lanka and just got my iPhone 4S! I feel apple just tricked a lot of customers to buy the phone because of Siri but in reality it's not yet operational!

So if you consider buying an iPhone 4S purely on the new features don't buy it now! Wait until Siri comes out of Beta!

Exactly how were you "tricked", particularly since Apple doesn't sell or support iPhones in Sri Lanka, and the fact that Siri is still beta and has limited localizations is posted on their web site?

Your problem has nothing at all to do with the topic of this thread and your description of it makes no sense in English. I suggest you start another thread and get someone to help you post in English.

Otherwise, do the basic troubleshooting steps described in the User Guide, Appendix B: Resart, Reset, Restore

I have bought a unlocked iPhone 4S at a premium price to use with different carriers internationally! A key reason to buy the iPhone was Siri, as based on the advertising it appears to save a significant amont time on my daily activities.

In fact the unlocked iPhones are marketed as an international phone!

It's rather obvious the limited localizations covers a broad spectrum. This is to cover apple against the accuracy of Siri responses to various accents and dialects, which is understandable. I am not on about whether or not Siri can understand my question in the first attempt.

Why apple has tricked me: no where in their communication they specify that Siri is only able to make calls to 10 digit numbers! Then how can they call the present version of an unlocked iPhone an international mobile device ?

Not even the call centre tech staff are even aware of this flaw!
