No sync over wifi option in iTunes. Why?

I've seen this question asked many times, but no definitive answer yet. My OS is 10.5.8, latest iTunes (10.5), iOS 5 on both my iPhone and iPad. When either are connected to the Macbook and iTunes is opened, there is no option for syncing over wifi in the options list.

By contrast, my wife's iPhone and iPad sync to her Windows7 PC, and she has the option. I'm not sure why the OS would matter, since the syncing is between iTunes and the device, but why in the world would a Windows machine have the options while a 2-year old Mac doesn't have the capability?

Any ideas? Thanks.

Phone plugged into CPU and in iTunes went to the Summary tab and scrolled down. Checked the "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi" and applied. Removed my phone from my CPU and plugged it in to power just a few feet away and verified both devices are on the same network and nothing but a greyed out option to sync on my phone. Doesn't appear to be ready for prime time quit yet or is there a blub about a Extrem Base Station being required for this to work? Currently using a Cisco Wireless Router.

With your IOS device plugged on your MAC, on the summary sheet of your iPhone under iTunes, select the box "synchronize this iPHONE over WiFi" at the bottom of the page (Options list)

Wouldn't matter, since there is no such option in iTunes.

Seems like Apple really dropped the ball on documentation on this one, by omitting that wi-fi sync also requires 10.6 OS and up. Every doc of theirs says the requirements are iTunes 10.5 and iOS5, and says nothing about OS requirements.

My wife's Vista machine is supported by my 2-year old Macbook isn't??
