iOS 5 Bluetooth ford problem

I have a 2011 (UK 11 reg) Ford Mondeo with built in Sony radio with sat nav, Bluetooth and CD. It has been linking fine to my iPhone 4 via Bluetooth both for phone calls and audio as needed running iOS 4. However since upgrading to iOS 5 it won't keeps saying it can't establish data connection, audio breaks up then the phone disconnects intermittently, and the radio no longer displays my phone signal strength which I relied up to know I had a signal.

This is a major pain as I need it to be reliable as it was until recently for work support phone calls. Can anyone please advise how to resolve this? Please don't say take it to my Ford dealer, 1) they will likely have no clue 2) why the **** should I when it's Apple's upgrade which has caused the problem - it was fine before I installed iOS 5.

I use the USB connection for an iPod Classic by the way, which would not work for phone calls anyway. Love how the censored a very minor swear word in regular use!

This situation is really frustrating. I think it is virtually impossible that Ford updates its BT software to make it compatible with the new protocol used by iOS5. Car and telco industry dynamics are "slighty" different...

I do hope that somebody in Apple is having a look on this thread and thinks about how to solve an issue that is now clearly impacting many customers...

Cheers,

R.

Same problem here too.

Focus 2010 Econetic with Travelpilot SatNav.

Head unit keeps giving errors it can not retrieve data from the bluetooth device (iPhone 3GS with iOS 5).

Never had any problems with this running iOS 4.x.x.

Cell reception isn't displaying either.

I will bring my car in to the dealership for maintenance soon, I'll ask if they can update the Travelpilot's firmware.

Honestly, this is something Apple should solve. Track info wasn't working with iOS 4 but at least my music played correctly and I could make phone calls without having to worry about losing the connection or getting errors all the time.

Thank you for all the feedback folks - please keep them coming, as the more people point out the problems they are having since upgrading to iOS5, the more chance of Apple possibly acting on it and building a fix into an update.

It's good to hear Ford may at least be on it with an update, but as originally stated I do not see why I should have to go to this hassle prior to my next service (February 2012) when it is Apple's update which is caused all the problems. It sounds like it was fine for most people beforehand. Unlike Apple's product, this is not some easy download upgrade - there is a very real chance my Ford dealer will look at me blankly and have no clue how to upgrade my radio. To do so is also a major pain when I have to work 8 til 5 Monday to Friday. While I rely on my phone in my car for work, I cannot justify taking time off when I feel like it just to upgrade my car's radio. I don't want to have to give up precious weekend time off sorting this issue which shouldn't be happening in the first place.

I understand the issue with iOS5 is due to some extra bluetooth data the phone is outputting with track info and art etc. Great in theory. To be fair though really I don't care about that especially I just want it back to working as it was previously. In fact I would happily downgrade back to iOS4 if I were allowed to do so - my phone working reliably is much more important to me than the likes of iCloud which really don't add much for me anyway.

I would like to see Apple add some options within Settings > General > Bluetooth, so the user can opt for basic output (i.e. as it was - working), or more advanced output (i.e. the extra data, if your equipment can cope with it.

Anyone from Apple reading this and able to, 1) respond 2) get an update actioned?

Similar issue here with my 2010 Mustang (U.S.) ... I have to manually reconnect bluetooth every time I start the car. Everything worked perfectly on my 3GS with iOS 4.xx (immediately reconnected each time) but the 4S with iOS 5.0 is totally messed up. I'd go back to my old phone but I think I "upgraded" the OS just before getting my new phone. D'oH!!

I just bought a 2011 Explorer (US) and had no problems with the bluetooth until the update to IOS5. Sometimes is connects to the bluetooth music and sometimes it does not. I also notice that my phone tells me that I am connected to the bluetooth, but the Sync system does not connect to the phone to make calls. I just get a message saying that it is searching for my phone.

Its just fustrating because I had NO problems with it before the update. If anyone has any suggestions, I will gladly take them 😉

If there is a new setting to be implemented to switch to "traditional" bluetooth, the old problem of the iPod starting automatically when connected to the car, could be solved too.

It is really annoying that the iPod starts playing when connected to bluetooth. It would be a really nice feature to be able to disconnect the AD2P protocol on certain connections.
