Q: iPhone 4s, echo when using apple headset during a call

I'm having an issue with my 32 gb iPhone 4s with Rogers.  When using the Apple hands free headset with the phone during a call, I get an echo problem. It does not occur immediately. It can very from 30 seconds into a call and as far up to 9 mins in before it begins the annoying echo. If I unplug the headset it goes away but will return when I plug the headset back in. I have tried 3 brand new iphone 4s headsets with the same problems. So far I have tried rebooting, and also restored phone back to factory original settings as a new phone and still no resolution. I have been told by the other person on the line a screech sound is made then the echo begins.

Switching to speakerphone is not a "correct answer" - it's barely a temporary fix that seems rather unsatisfactory for such an expensive piece of kit. It is appalling that Apple have not acknowledged or addressed this problem, which is affecting 4S users worldwide. The echo rendes the device not fit for purpose.

If anyone does find a cure to it, many (including myself) will be most grateful.

    Dear Apple,

    This is a global problem!!!!!!!!

Here in Italy there are a lot of users frustrated by this issue.

I use a lot of Apple products, Mac Pro, Macboock Pro, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and now iPhone 4S!

But i think that this is the moment to migrate to others platforms!

The company  has trasformed into a gadget salesman, and so i have to say hallo to Apple!!!!!

    Best

    Stefano

Please can everyone let apple know by filling out the following "official" form

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

As pointed out by someone in the thread, the more people who fills out the form, the more attention it will get from apple

Same problem with mine.  Apple store replaced it once, and when I left the store it was working fine.  Now it has started again.  No audio on some outgoing calls.  It shows the counter, but I cannot hear the phone dialing, and can't hear the person on the other end.  And sometimes when it does dial, it connects and I get a loud screech like a fax machine trying to pick up.  And when I do make a sucessful call, after 5-6 minutes the sound fades and the person I am talking to can no longer hear me.  I did fill out the feedback form, but Apple REALLY needs to address this issue quickly.  I've had Apple products since the mid 80's, and don't want to change, but this is discouraging.  Also the call quality is poor.  I had T-Mobile for 8 years, and used an unlocked 3g, and never had these problems.  It just got glitchy after awhile because I could not update the OS.

This is what happened to me.

I went to the Apple Store (International Mall Tampa FL) to complain that my second phone and my third handset replacement did not solve the problem. These guys are now saying: If we can't reproduce the problem we don't replace anything. So they use their phones at the store and everything surprisingly works perfect!!!!..  But,, during the test I got a phone call.. and I put the apple guy on the phone.. and he answered reluctantly: Oh, I don't hear the echo, the call is perfectly clear...

The incoming phone call had a louder echo and he dinied...

I don't know what to do. I got a phone and I can't even use it as one. What's next? A lawsuit for this?

I bought my iPhone lastnight and have similar issues.

When I make a call, it connects, but the other person on the line can't hear me and I can't

hear them, all I hear is the echo (myself) talking.

What to do? This is my second replacement...

strange... if you can't hear the other person then it's really bad... you need to get a third replacement I'm afraid.... most of us in this thread are experiencing echo from the other line when using the earpiece..not the other way around...

If I were you, I would try another phone..

Me too! Even without using a headset

iPhone 4s on AT&T with iOs 5.0.1 no case, no headsphones or bluetooth - just very poor voice quality during calls. Incoming. Outgoing. From four different cities over the past week. Irritating echo and tinny voice quality. Every single time. Guess I'll be going to the apple store to exchange the phone.

I have the same problem. During the call I hear my voice ... an annoying echo.

I hope it's just a software problem and solve it soon ... is unacceptable!

Iphone 4s, 16 GB, Italy, operator Vodafone.
