Not able to add an appointment to the calendar on 4S

I have a new IPhone 4S, and it is not allowing me to add an appointment to the calendar (the + button is not showing). Other methods (ex. SIRI or pressing a date for a few seconds) does not work either. Any thoughts on how to fix this? This phone is not using ICloud since there is another iphone on the same account and we do not want appts mixed up.

Just had that problem with a customer and i completed a reset on the phone and it worked.

Was that a "reset" or a "restore"? I really don't want to restore my phone. I just got it set up.

FOUND THE PROBLEM!

I have a Gmail account

the default has you using google calendar --if this pref is turned on teh Apple calendar does not allow input.

I hope this helps others.
