Apple tech called me last Friday. Ask me to reset my router and reset my network on 4S. I alreday done it myself. Yesterday the WIFI connection gone bad again. I noticed that my battery level is about 28%. I charged the phone to about 60% then the WIFI was stabled. I found that lot people has same problem. It must be a software or hardware problem for 4S. I have a question what was your battery level when WIFI is going bad.

I have exactly the same problem!! Phone's wifi home connection worked wonderfully for the first 2 days then suddenly stopped. Now all I get is an intermittent connection, strong wifi signal on the phone but no internet connectivity at all.

It only works when I put the phone right next to the router!

I rang Vodafone UK - they are completely clueless - couldn't suggest any thing different to what I'd already done - network forget, reset network settings, reset all settings, restore ios5 from iTunes, hard resets.

Only thing I haven't done is get a new router but don't see why I need to, as my old iPhone 3GS works beautifully.

Come on Apple - get it right and sort it out!!

I received my Verizon iPhone 4S about 5 hours ago via FedEx. Everything was working fine over WiFi: downloaded some apps I'd purchased back when I had an iPhone 3G on AT&T via iCloud, manually punched in my contacts (switching phones is a great time to update my address book), and was generally thrilled with how snappy and responsive everything was.

I plug the iPhone into the wall to charge and in the time it took to go from 70% to 100% my WiFi had quit responding though it still shows as connected. Checking my router (Cisco RV220W) it shows my iPhone with an active IP and I can ping it from the router.

I rebooted my phone, reset network settings, hard reset (Home + Power), tried manually configuring a static IP (pingable and shows up in the routers client table, still no internet access). Other devices on the network access the WiFi flawlessly.

This is obviously an iPhone issue, what are Apple's plans to address this?

EDIT: I just created a second wireless vlan on the same router. The iPhone 4S connected without issue and has internet access. The settings for the two wireless vlans are identical except that the original vlan was on a separate isolated subnet (192.168.2.*) from our wired LAN.

Me too. Same problem, I think. With the WIFI option on, and connected to my router, the internet connection will work for some time and then just quit. The resolution I take is to toggle the Airplane mode on and off, or just turn off WIFI and use the cellular connection.

My router settings:

Security Mode: WPA2-PSK

WPA Algorithm: TKIP

Key Renewal Interval: 3600 seconds

Hmmm now that I'm typing this, I wonder if it has to do with the Key Renewal Interval. 3600 seconds equals an hour, which seems to correspond with how long the phone seems to work before I lose connectivity.

The frustrating thing is, though, that you'd think the phone would just default to the cellular network if it doesn't find that the WIFI connection is working.

Today I swapped out my SMC router for a much older Netgear router. This solved my wifi problem.

I do not know, without futher testing, if it is just the difference in router brands, or if the difference is that on the Netgear router, I configured the security mode for WPA-PSK-TKIP as opposed to the SMC's WPA2-PSK-TKIP (the SMC did not offer the option of WPA-PSK).

This happened immediately with the new 4S I got yesterday--dropping wi-fi when the phone was one foot from the wireless router. Siri wouldn't work right either. Made a trip to the Genius Bar today where they couldn't figure it out either. They determined it was a hardware problem, and gave me a new phone. The new phone works fine--no dropped wi-fi and Siri is behaving well. My guess is Apple is having quality control issues in China.
