Problem reading ZIP disks

I have a 100MB USB ZIP drive. Since connecting it to my new iMac last week, I have been unable to read ZIP disks that are password-protected. Instead, I get an error message, "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer."

Disks that I didn't protect with a password read just fine. There's nothing on Iomega's site about this yet. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I’m in the same boat as you.

In the past’ I’ve needed to install Iomega Tools to access password protected disks.

I have an old version of Iomega Tools (1.0) but it does not recognize the drive anymore (even tho Mac OS recognizes zip disks if they aren’t password protected.)

I downloaded the latest version of Iomegaware I could find (4.0.2) but it will not install!!????

The installer runs. I get a message that software was successfully installed. But then I can find nothing on my hard drive except the old version of Iomega Tools.

What gives?

My non-password Zips open just fine.
But, the keyboard eject button will not eject them. I have to use the Apple-E key to get it out, or drag it to the trash.
Not a big deal.
Suggestion for the password protected Zips. Can you open them on an older machine and remove the passwords, so you can mount them on the new iMac and then use Apple Security to encrypt them>?

An update: I exchanged several e-mails with Iomega's tech support about this problem. Gave up because they kept asking me questions about details I had already supplied - they had no idea that this problem exists, and had no clue about a solution, except to say that there's no plan for an Iomega software update.

I don't want to pay to have Iomega retrieve the data (there are 10 disks involved), so what's my best bet? I don't have an old Mac available to do as suggested. Maybe I should trek down to Kinko's and rent a Mac there to try to remove the password protection?
