Colored outlook categories

After ios 5 my categores are there - when I open an appointment it is properly Categorized and color coded. But, in the calendar view and print views they are gone! Am I doing something wrong?

It's not just you, it's probably everyone. Apple decided that you needed your contacts in a different place (the iCloud data file in Outlook) and they did something to the contacts portion that makes it disregard categories and colors. You can turn this off and get all your contact back though; look in your deleted items folder, you'll find your original contacts folder there with all your colors and categories intact.

Here's the first (I think) thread on this matter:

I've seen other posts suggesting that there are similar issues with claendar and tasks. Let's hope they fix this soon.

Thank you! Sadly, I have learned the hard to back up everything before EVER updating anything "i" related.

I am hoping I solved my issue - I copied the calendar to a windows live account and then added that account to all idevices. I believe it is all working - calendar is in sync with categories and colors. As an added bonus, it looks like outlook is treating the MSN outlook calendar as a default calendar so I can accept invitations.

This may also help me at the office since I have to go through the IT department to download anything on the computers and I already have MSN outlook connector installed. Can't imagine what their week is going to look like! Since I am on an exchange server at work I don't think MSN can take over my default calendar. Crossing my fingers I am correct.

I will continue to use the for icloud mail and backup and Xmarks for bookmarks. I love the apple product but have a strong aversion to their software as there always seems to be an issue. Even routine synching is fraught with problems and error codes.

iCloud Bugs:

Outlook color categories.

The color categories are there, but they don't work in iCloud folder. If you copy the contacts into the 'contacts' folder, the color category functionality is restored. I use the contacts for a lot of mail merge activity. I need a fix for this, soon.

Slow type search

When typing in the first 3-4 letters of a name, Outlook now starts search for that 4th letter as the first letter of the name.

United States of America

In what seems to be randome cases throughout my iCloud contacts, it has added a "United States of America" line to the address. When this happens, there are additional Carriage Returns in the address area and some times the first line of the address is clipped.

Searching

Searching seems to be impaired. I used to be able to search for any word in any field, even the notes field. Now, Outlook can't seem to find anything that is in the iCloud contacts' note field. Looking for things in the 'other' field produced unpredictable results. Some are found, some are not. [I was trying to see if I could use the other field as a tag to work around the whole color category thing.]
