solution for no mms/sms with iPhone 4s?

Just got my iPhone 4s and realized I am only able to send iMessage. SMS looks like it goes thru but they never get it. MMS won't send at all.

I see others have this same issue, but I haven't seen one post saying they found a resolution other than a few who said it mysteriously started working a few hours later again.

Anyone have suggestions? I already restored the phone, checked all my settings, etc. Tomorrow I'll go into the Apple store, but I'd love to fix it before then. Thanks!

Black iOS5 4s ported over from t-mobile with the same issue 😟

no mms but imessage works. I do think that there may be a problem with itunes because I had a family plan with t-mobile and brought 4 phones over to AT&T the 2 phones that were using unlocked iphone 3Gs with T-mobile are the phones that are not sending and receiving MMS while the phone that is new to MMS and data completely works fine.

Yes. It was my 2nd step I tried.

First was reset network settings.

When that didn't work I restored.

When that didn't work I restored and didn't NOT load a backup, thinking maybe it was the backup that was the issue.

When that didn't work I had AT&T reprovision the account.

When that didn't work I got a new sim.

When that didn't work I went to apple to replace the phone. We tested it on a demo phone (black) and it worked. So, new white phone was issued...

When that didn't work ...lol, I tried yet another new sim.

When that didn't work I swapped sims again into a black phone. It worked in the black phone. And the sim from the black stopped working in the white. When I swapped back...white still didn't work. And black still did.

With all this info, I went back to apple. And tried another white phone of theirs. Didn't work....tried a new black phone...worked

They offered to swap me for a black. But my wife WANTS A WHITE, lol. So at this point it's been well documented with apple, the only thing i can do is wait for a firmware update.

Unless, someone has a idea I haven't tried or forgot about?

P.s. AT&T doesn't let us edit our network or mms settings

Thanks for any and everybody's input on this!

Hi all, i had the same problem using a White iPhone 4S 32G on Tmobile here in the UK.

I managed to sort it out by going to Settings->Phone where i realised my phone number was down as a bunch of zero's. I changed it to my number (including the international code +44 for the UK) And that did the trick. I just thought i would post incase it worked for anyone else.

I have a black 16GB 4S. My solution to this problem is going to sound stupid but it worked for me.

I noticed a day after I bought my phone that mms weren't sending. I simply went to my messages settings and turned mms off. Sent a text to my wife with the setting off, which I'm not sure this matters. I figured since I changed a setting I should do something with the new setting to make sure the phone works and recognizes I changed a setting. So after she receives my text I turn mms back on, send a photo a viola! It works. It works through iMessage, which wouldn't even let me send pictures through before and regular service mms works now too!

Well, upon further review, it turns out I was simply being deceived by my phone even more. It wouldn't tell me texts weren't sending with a red '!' unless MMS was off. With it on I wouldn't get the red '!' So my last possible step was to call my carrier. Easy enough, they simply forgot to turn on messaging for my new phone. Clowns!

Any who, I'm up and running now. Good luck to you!

Right been having all sorts of unrelated issues....sim not recognising number (not iphone issue)...anyhows....

Vodafone decided that the iPhone was at fault and I've received a brand new white iPhone 4S today.

Oh how I got my hopes up....but alas the result is the same...no MMS!

So its either

1) my account is completely screwed with vodafone to which I've asked them to investigate further.

Or

2) there is a glitch with the iphone white firmware.

The white firmware/settings is different as it appears different in itunes ie white picture.

Maybe the 5.0.1 release will fix it. Is anyone with this issue got the beta to try and does it work?

How did it go with Apple?

Ok I went to Apple yesterday and they gave me a new phone and right before anything I restored from iCloud then tried MMS and no luck. The 'genius' then put his sim card in and it did not work - he put my sim in his phone and I was able to send MMS from his phone. Then we swapped phones again! Again we chose the restore feature from iCloud and it did not work same problem! THEN he got another phone we by chance did not restore and just set up as a new phone..... IT WORKED!!!! I was able to send and receive MMS. Then I restored from iCloud and gues what.... MMS did not work again! I then with the same phone reset the setting and did not restore or put in anything from my Apple ID and it worked!!!

What I have concluded! Something about my Apple ID or restoring from backup causes MMS not to work!

There is nothing wrong with any phone or color - it is a weird software glitch that confused everyone at the Apple Store...

Anyone have thoughts on what to do next?

I'm glad this worked for you! They had brought this solution up to me but I had no such luck. But...what it sounds like is your back up is corrupted. So...here is what you need to do.

1) Take your phone with all your data on it and sync it in iTunes so your contacts get stored where ever you feel comfortable with (google, outlook, ect)

2) Use your phone like a digital camera to store or import your pictures on your computer when it's plugged in. I don't know if your on a Mac or windows machine but I can go into further detail on both if needed.

3) If you need to save anything else on your phone (calendar, notes) you can sync the data like you did with your contacts in step 1.

4) Get your new phone, TRIPLE CHECK THAT IT WORKS LOL. And set it up as a new phone in iTunes don't use a backup. And sync it with whatever you used to get your contacts back on it.

5) Again use it as a camera on your machine and you should be able to "explore" it and find the DCIM folder and a sub folder with a series of numbers in it. And copy your photos you saved on your computer in step 2 there. (In the past with I did this, it mixed my pictures up and they were rotated randomly so I went back on my computer and straighter them all out. You can rename them to get them into some kind of order...but it wasn't that important to me)

6) Test it again to confirm MMS still works. And make sure that you don't restore it from the iCloud backup on accident. It should make a new restore in iCloud the following night....and all shak be right in the world for you...cheers
