iPhone 4S dropping network and data at random

Hi,

I've been using an iPhone 4 on a Vodafone contract for the past 16 month and just bought an iPhone 4S direct from Apple. It arrived on Friday morning and I got it set up correctly as far as I can tell.

When I first turn it on, it works lovely and exactly as I would expect, able to make calls, send texts and access the internet via the cellular network. However, at what appears to be random, the network will disappear (no bars of signal) stopping me making calls and texts, but still allowing me to access the internet. Sometimes, the Internet goes, but I can still make calls and texts. Other times, everything is gone and I get "No Signal" where it normally says Vodafone UK.

So when trying to fix this problem after it's noticed, I try putting it into Airplane mode and back out. The phone scans for a network and goes back to the same state as before I tried this fix. I have tried resetting network settings, but this doesn't change anything. The only thing that actually fixes it temporarily is turning the phone right off and back on again.

At this stage I assume this is a bug with the software, but I wondered if anyone else is experiencing anything like this? If no one is, I will take it up with Apple, but I don't really want to do that as I love the new phone so much!!

Cheers, Stuart

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE BETA 3 IOS 5.1 SPECIALY FROM IMZL OR WHATEVER IT'S A SCAM, U CAN NOT HAVE BETA 3 INSTALL ON PHONE WITHOUT UDD AND IF U'RE NOT OFFICIAL DEVELOPER PAYING FOR IT.

Once again this cannot be solved at the moment until the update is out, try with other carrier or sell it !!!!!!!

Hi, that s exactely what happened to me in the Czech Rep! When they first returned my phone from the service, they hadnt done anything but restore and this issuse continued. Obvious as ****! So I handed it quite annoyingly back to them right at the store. Today, after almost one month I got my iPhone 4S back, of course they gave me a new one and so far it is been going ALL RIGHT the whole afternoon. No calls crash, not searchin for the network etc. Now I m pretty excited if there s gonna be SIM FAILURE in the morning as it used to be when I had the old one.

Gonna keep you posted! Good luck to all!

Hi Greets from poland

Same problem, don`t matter what I do... really annoiyng, making this ****** phone useless

Like someone already said: stop selling crappy solutions: it wont help. Everyone says its software problem and Im out of belive it. A lot of freinds have 4s since sometimes and there is 1/2 witch are workind fine even with 5.0.1 etc. What do you say for that??????????? The other half have thiss crapp problem.

Today I sent my 4s to the service with notification that restores and updates changed nothing.. I also called them and someone there said "probably it`s hardware problem, we`ll try to sent u back a fine working one.."

Will see.

Hello everybody,

I've the same problem. I live in Belgium and work every day at Luxembourg.

I lose connection of 2G (from 4/5 to 0/5)

I lose also the 3G connection (the iphone indicate E for Edge instead of 3G).

I lose also connection to the Wifi (from 4/5 or 5/5 to 0/5).

I lose connection sometines also during a call.

The solutions tried :

1. I've installed the 5.0.1 (9A406) instead of 9A405 --> problem appears less often but it is still there (I can have no problem during 4 or 5 hours, but the lost of connection appears randomly

2. I've changed the SIM card to my operator --> problem is still there

3. I've reset the network parameters --> problem solved for 5-10 minutes but after is still there

4. I've also tried multiple solution found (disable localization for Siri, disable the Pin Code, disable MMS, etc.) --> The problem is still there.

I don't know if I must return my iphone to apple because nobody knows if it's a hardware or software problem.

I'm really disappointed of Apple: with the price of the Apple products, I think we can wait more quality...

I have similar problems in Finland. iPhone 4S continuously switches between 3G, E, O and No network in the place where I live. I have other phones (Nokia, Samsung) with the same operator that work without problems in this location. iPhone seems to work better when used on the area with good 3G coverage. But still I should be able to use it as phone on places that have no perfect 3G. The constant switching of network seems to also drain the battery quickly. When the phone is connected to the network, the outgoing calls fail often. Receiver can hear the caller's voice, but the caller can't hear anything.

Same problem, I have done all the stuff you are mentioning, and I have also replaced my phone!

Guess what? Problem is still there

It´s Phone APPLE! that the NAME of the device... What is a phone Apple, what?

Shame!

I never thought that I would say this, but I can no longer recommand a iPhone :/

And what´s with Apple?

Building a spaceship head quarter, drinking long drinks and dancing samba?

They REALLY do not care about us!

At least the iPhone is useful to somebody:

Hi mate, I totally agree with you! I also believe it is likely to be a hardware problem. Well, what I find interesting is that they gave a new device with the newest iOS 5.0.1. (which i thought was the source of the problem) and it works OK now. No problems so far. So I keep my fingers crossed, and I hope that after a month of being in possesion of iPhone 4s I will finally be able to use my iPhone properly!

MY ADVICE TO ALL: if you having troubles, do have your iPhone changed! YOU WILL NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM by restoring, switching to the airline mode, turning off the pin code etc. All this is just wasting of your time, i guess!

They gotta give you a new device and in case the new one aint working properly, just get your money back!

This issue is a big lost for APPLE and what is more, it seems they dont even care!

hello,i was posting here earlier, looking to solve our common issue...

well my iphone 4s is model: MD235CS, i am on the 9A406 version now of ios 5.0.1 and my modem firmware is 1.0.14...

My phone is working all good past a couple of weeks now...and i am convinced that in my case a sim replacement was the solution...

i tryed everything and a bit more what i could find on the web how to get around this no sim a sim failure errors, and nothing helped.i even dropped to the level that i almost started to believe that all the guru step by step guyides would help me...well them guydes did not help obviously, but a sim upgrade from 64k to 128k did.

and what is important that it is not just a 128k sim,it is also a very recent issue of it...

i was told in a apple store back then that it is important to get my sim replaced for a new fast one...

also the phone is on my mum's orange contract, but i use it on o2, and the orange guy sayd as we were buying it in the store that the system asks him to replace my mums sim with the new phone...whych i considered pretty annoying back then as my mum needed to get a sim adapter to fit the new microsim into her old 3gs..

so that is my story...as it seems im the happier one from us lot...sorry for you guys out there still suffering,i still very much remember how s**t that is...

very bad lights on apple...and i cannot believe that such a messup could slip through theyr hands and takes so long to make good...

cheers

When my 4s was bought in november and there were 5.0 on it the phone worked fine for few weeks with a sim from 2004! (cuted ofcourse) and then I installed this crap 5.0.1

Now still waiting what poples from the service will say, they just recived my phone today..
