Tips for a Smooth Lion 10.7.2 upgrade!
If I had paid attention while the installer ran the first time, this would not be much of a problem. However you may want to learn from my experience...
Apple, in it's infinite wisdom, put something into the upgrade installer that is so easy to miss it is truly astounding. Hence I don't feel so bad at having missed it, since my first install was essentially unattended. If I had seen it, a HUGE amount of agony might possibly have been avoided. I do know that the second time around (when I was paying attention to what the installer was doing and made these additions), it was flawless. đ
Here's a key:
During the install (almost at the end) a message screen pops up that says, "Go to System Preferences to complete your transition to iCloud." Don't know if it stays there any length of time but it comes up. It's during the install process, it may seem unusual to see, you may want to ignore and wait until afterwards, but I recommend you PAY ATTENTION TO THAT POP-UP and do it (or start it) before the installer asks you to restart!
Here's a few more:
- After doing the above and restarting to the new System, go back to System Prefs and update (or check) your settings there for iCloud, Mail&Contacts, Printers. I found a few surprises there- things that hadn't updated.
- Also it's a good time to update WMV (Windows Media).
- Don't forget to check for System Updates after 10.7.2 installs.
- Last good thing to do after iphoto, and all the System Updates- fix/repair Permissions in System Utilities.
If I had done all the above, my install would have certainly gone lots smoother. Just a tip on doing a smooth update, guys! I found out the hard way, now you don't have to.
