Siri does not read new text messages from the lock screen.

If I recieve a new text message (while phone is locked) then ask Siri to "read new message", it will respond with "New message, you can reply or read again" It doesnt actually read the message. I have to make sure the phone locks again after the notification, unlock the phone, then give Siri the command to "read new messages" to make it work. Anyone else having this issue? I have reset Siri already with no luck. I know Siri is in Beta, just want this to be addressed and fixed for final release.

Its not even the passcode lock, it doesnt work for the general slide lock screen, i wouldnt class this as a security feature as the slide lock screen still allows anyone to gain access to your phone. My impression of the lock screen is it is designed to stop you dialling calls by mistake when the phone is in your pocket etc.

It kind of defeats the object of having Siri read your message out if you still have to get your phone from your pocket and unlock the screen. Especially as the lock screen is really a must feature to prevent accidental calling. Apple should have designed Siri to still read messages if the phone is on the general slide lock.

If im out running with headphones on my phone lock will be on to stop me dialling by mistake while runing with the phone in my pocket, if i get a txt Siri wont read it, id have to go in my pocket to slide the lock off i might as well just read the message myself while i have the phone out.

I understand the security of it if you choose to have a passcode enabled lock but not for the standard slide lock.

Yeah i have new messages, Siri even says reading message from... then it goes blank then asks if i want to reply to the message but its not actually read out the message.

Im sure its nothing i am doing as i dont have a passcode enabled lock on the phone the only lock i have is the auto lock but i have to unlock this 1st then ask Siri to read the message which is pointless as i may as well just read it myself

MucSteve, I totally agree with you.

Just like the guy jogging & the other guy driving.

This is what I expect Siri to do for me.🙂

If you have the passcode enabled, your phone assumes it's to prevent people gaining unauthorised access to your phone. Bypassing that security and allowing anyone to get access to your messages via Siri doesn't make sense. On the other hand, by selecting to display messages on the lock screen, you yourself are making a conscious decision to bypass the security, so it makes sense that Siri can then read back the message to you.

The point of having Siri read you something that is already on the lock screen is that you don't have to take the phone out of your pocket (if, like me, you've got a headset with a microphone) or, if you're driving, you don't have to take your eyes off the road!

It is a security thing because think about it for a second.. The purpose of locking your phone is so someone else doesnt have access to it. If anyone could open up siri from a lock screen and access all of your texts and everything without unlocking in the phone it would be a serious security issue! Turning on message preview fixes it because you already have it set to show up on the screen so siri isnt reading anything that anyone cant already see on the lock screen if that makes sense.

Its not a big issue, just apple trying to keep your information safe! Relax people!

I don't think it's a security thing. For me, if the phone is locked requiring a password to get in, Siri will tell me I have a new message. When I ask her to read it, she says I have to unlock my phone first. However, when I unlock my phone, she still doesn't read it - just says you can reply or read it again. I have the same problem whether the phone is locked or unlocked (i.e., not needing the password). One or two times out of ten she'll read the message - I haven't worked out what the difference is yet.
