iCloud instead of external hard drive?

Would it be a good idea to use iCloud for backing up all my stuff on my MacBook Pro instead of buying an external hard drive?

Would it be able to back up everything? , like notes, contacts, calendar, photos, documents, apps and music properly? That is pretty much evrything i have on my mac!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Personally I would not trust it with anything valuable, I have all my photos and important documents on 2 or 3 external hard drives. I know they can fail but a cloud system like icloud or Dropbox can also fail and then you would lose everything. If you reach your limit then you have to buy more space anyway, as far as I understand the photos only sync for 30 days - not good for a photographer like myself. If I migrate to the icloud it will be for the mail only I will not enable photo syncing as I take too many in day to make it viable.
