How can i create a @me account in iCloud?

The only way to have a "me.com" account with iCloud is to migrate an existing me.com account to iCloud. iCloud will not allow you to simply create a new me.com username. Assuming that you have a MobileMe account, simply choose the "migrate" to iCloud option and then enter your me.com username in the resulting iCloud username field. Use your existing MobileMe password.

As I recall, to do the above, I first logged in to MobileMe and followed the prompts to migrate to iCloud.

so I have a related question. i also have an @hotmail apple id and when i got my iphone i created an @me mobileme account. when i updated to iOS5, i migrated my mobileme account to iCloud. on my iphone, everything looks great. however, when I log into iCloud on my ipad 2 with the same apple id that i use on my phone, my @me account does not show up. when i try to sync notes/mail it says that i need to set up an @me address, which i don't get because I already have one.

i am just confused because they are the same apple id on both the iphone and ipad. can you not use the same @me account on multiple iOS devices? this seems to defeat the purpose of iCloud to me... am i missing something?

answered my own question. apparently somehow my first mobileme account which i migrated to icloud was associated with a different apple id. but there was a bug and for some reason it still showed up on my phone even though i wasn't using the apple id associated with that mobileme account. once i set up a new @me account in icloud, and deleted both icloud accounts off my phone and ipad, then re-added them, everything worked great. one major problem however is that in the process i lost all my contacts. not too big a deal since i have them backed up on my computer anyway, but still a hassel.

i really wish apple would do something to simplify all these different accounts. it is very frustrating.

So where do you "Migrate" to iCloud to enable an existing .me account?
