IOS5: audio book stops after each section

Hello,

after installing IOS5 audio books stop after each section. Also the function to repeat the last 30 seconds is gone.

Is this due to IOS5 or a set-up issue?

Can anybody help me?

The repeat last 30 seconds button is yet another gratuitous deletion of functionality as a result of iOS 5 on the iPad. The repeat last 30 seconds button is still present in the iPhone version of iOS 5. There are other major annoyances with iOS 5 on iPad. See: iOS 5 Music.app on iPad doesn't support audiobook chapters.

As for your iPad Music app stopping by itself at the end of each section (I assume here that you mean the parts or tracks of the audiobook - not the chapters) this also appears to be yet another annoying bizzare behavior that has been introduced into the iPad version of the Music app. I hadn't picked up on this egregious nonsense since as soon as saw the loss of the chapter support I was pretty much apoplectic and haven't used the Music app since.

One really wonders if there was any one was doing any sanity checking or Q/A on this app. As some said in the other thread if ain't broke don't fix it.

It's pathetic that Apple cares this little about audiobooks and is this out of touch with what people are doing with their devices. My 9 and 11 year old and many of their friends use their ipads and ipods to listen to audiobooks a lot of the time. I check the audiobook out of the library, load it into itunes and transfer it onto their ipad/ipod. The playlist solution didn't work for my son (kept going into shuffle mode). So I had to figure out something else AND did. Just download the iPhone App for Audible.com. It works just fine on my son's iPad2. You don't have to log in to or sign up for Audible for it to work. Goes from one chapter to the next AND has the Repeat Last 30 sec feature (you can even customize this to a different amount of time). The books do show up in slightly odd categories which I haven't had time to play with (son is too busy listening to an audiobook to let mom near his iPad).

The Audible iPhone app is quite nice; however, I think we have a difference in terminology here. The Audible app can play audiobooks from the "iPod Library" and will indeed smoothly go from one section/file of an audiobook to the next; however, the Audible app does not have anyway to select specific chapters or view chapter titles within an audiobook file. It simply can not see the chapter marks because the iOS does not make that information available to apps that access audiobook media from the shared "iPod Library" area of the iPad. Please see:

Same thing on my iPad. I transferd yesterday first time under iOS 5 a audiobook on my iPad and wonder me what happen. My solution was, to stream the audiofiles from my Mac, but this can't be the right fix.

I try today to remove the status "Audiobook" from the files to get access on the music-lib for the sync. After that I opend the sync in iTunes and select the playlist with my ab files. After the sync I tryed to play the mp3 files, but they wont play. After I select the first title, i can only see in the info that the iPad try to play each file from the ab in seconds.

If I open a music file from an album, all works fine for me. That's one of the biggest bug ever who I found under the iOS in the music app. It's a shame.

So it's from now on it's not only the new layout who I not like. I still not understand why Apple change it completly on the iPad and kill all the typical GUI elements from the music-app under iOS 4???

I'm astounded that this has been going on since the release of iOS 5 and Apple hasn't bothered to fix it. My son is dyslexic and likes to listen to books as he goes to sleep at night. His learning disabity is one of the prime reasons my Uncle purchased an iPad for him. $800 PO highly breakable S is what it is. An eating fork fell one inch onto the edge of the screen and it shattered. I have to go in his room every 10 minutes to play the next section of a book unless I go fiddle around making a playlist. RIDICULOUS! This better be fixed with the new iOS coming up. I've not been a big apple fan since we got the first iMac and it was obsolete within a year. My uncle bought us 10K worth of Apple products because I'm went back to school and for the kids to use for school. I was really hoping to become an Apple convert and be shown how wonderful the new stuff is. As usual, Apple makes fancy stuff you want if it worked as it should but instead of making it stable and giving it longevity, they leave the customers who can't afford to keep grabbing at the latest hardware in the dust with their expensive, buggy crap.

Several of my audiobooks were loaded from CD's. I had to mark them as audiobooks in Info to get them to show up in audiobooks and not music. I've read that the 30 second skip back has been replaced but they have still not made it so you can play all sections or chapters within an audiobook without stopping. They do play as they should in iTunes on my computer, just not on the iPad.

If you know how to "properly format" a book so that we can both see the chapters and have them play consecutively without stopping at the end of each section, do tell.

also, I have noted that if you press the musical note to the left of the progress bar that shows how many seconds into the story you are, that yes, it will play all sections or chapters. But it starts from the beginning. Or perhaps from where you last left off after pressing pause. But you can no longer go directly to any chapter or section you wish and start from there. The chapter or section markers are nowhere to be seen in the window that pops up. Many of our stories are 3 stories in one and my son falls asleep listening to a certain section and I need to be able to go back to specific points- not where it last left off. I don't want to have to scrub and guess at where the best place is every time.

As you can see from my earlier post, we are having the same issue as you. My son has chronic illnesses which leave him unable to do much of anything but lie in a dark room and listen to audiobooks and that is why I bought him an ipad. I check the books out of the library, load them into itunes and then onto his ipad. We have found that the Audible app at least lets you listen to the books without having to press play after each section. It's not a perfect solution as someone else pointed out, but it does solve the biggest issue of moving on after each section. It is truly pathetic that Apple has not fixed this issue, or even acknowledged that it exists. I have reported it repeatedly to the developers bug section and hopefully others are doing that too. Also, every time I call Apple for other things, I mention it as well.
