siri - reminders when arriving at location??

I was under the impression that Siri would give you a reminder when leaving or arriving at a specific location. I have tried this and it almost works.

Remind me to pick up my dry cleaning when I leave my current location - worked

Remind me to pick up my dry cleaning when I get home - worked

Then I set up some stores in my contacts, along with their address so that Siri could find them.

Remind me to get toilet paper when I arrive at Costco. - failed

Siri understood Costco, Costco was in my contacts, but siri said I don't understand when I arrive at Costco.

Anyone had any luck getting this feature to work?

I can't get this to work either. Siri understands what I'm asking, she just can't make the connection. I tried the often used example "remind me to buy milk when I get to the grocery store." She just responds with "when would you like me to remind you?" and I say "when I get to the grocery store." She then says I don't understand what you're telling me. UGH.

Siri is only designed to work with the addresses in your own contact card: typically "Work" and "Home". However, you can do a little hack and get another place to be recognized. For example, to have Siri recognize the location "Whole Foods", I have to add another address to MY contact, type in the whole foods address, click the title of the address, scroll down to Custom and label the address "Whole Foods."

Works great, albeit messes up your contact card a bit if you ever send it to someone.

I was having the same problem & likewise was baffled that Siri couldn't do this. You'd think just putting a business name/address in your contacts would be all that was necessary. For that matter, you'd think Siri could pull the address off the web pretty easily.

I tried your fix & couldn't get it to work for me. For example, I want to be able to set up reminders for when I arrive at or leave a hospital at which I do surgery. I tried setting up a custom address label I called "The Hospital" so I could say "Remind me to sign my charts when I arrive at the hospital". Siri has no idea what I'm talking about. If you've been able to successfully use this "work around" I'd appreciate any ideas about what I may be doing wrong.

In any case, I'm sure this is something they're working on - seems obvious that this is something people would want/need. How am I supposed to set up reminders that I'm not supposed to be anywhere within 500 yards of a Chucky-Cheese!?! 👿

Update - I guess it just took awhile for my custom address label to be updated - now it's working.

I also tried putting the business name in the "first name" field of the contact as another poster suggested (so my contact card wouldn't be messed up) - that still didn't work. Oh well, I guess my contact card will be kinda jacked up. I put my nickname as "Oh Great One" so Siri would address me like that so I guess I've already blown that option. Somone else suggested making an alternate contact listing for myself without all the "Siri Modifications" that I use to share with business associates. That seems like a good work-around.

Same problem here.

When I say "Remind to [blank] when I arrive at [X]", it replies "When would you like me to remind you?"

"When I arrive at [X]."

"I do know what you mean by 'When I arrive at [X]'. You can be reminded at a time, or when you leave or arrive somewhere. When would you like me to remind you?"

Repeat until insane.

[X] is in my contacts, with name & address, and if I type a reminder, it readily accepts [X] as the location.

Would love guidance on this one.

Thanks all.

I have the same problem. When I create a reminder, and then Siri asks "When would you like me to remind you?", I say "When I arrive at Costco". This never seems to work. But, when I say "Remind me to buy milk when I arrive at Costco", this does work. Is this a bug with Siri, or I'm wondering if this is something that doesn't work in Canada yet?
