Deregistering a number from iMessage

Have you tried turning off imessage on the 3gs? If the imessage is turned off on the 3gs your 4s should send a text instead of an imessge

Someone else suggested turning it off but in my case I wouldn't be able to iMessage my daughter on her iPod. There has to be a work around. I wonder if Apple Support on the phone can handle this?

hi, i have the same problem. i have upgraded to a 4s from my 3gs and all imessages go to my old 3gs.

that only is on wifi now.

Anyone found an answer to this? I have a similar issue, I upgraded to a 4s and my daughter borrowed my old iPhone 4 running iOS 5 while her blackberry was being repaired. Her number then got registered as an iMessage number, now she is back on her bb but my phone still tries to send her iMessages before eventually sending as an SMS.

My wife has no iPhone, no phone with an Wifi, just a very ordinary phone. When I send a message to her, my iPhone is automatically switched in the iMessage mode. If I send a message, she does not get it. and I am not even informed that my message is lost. What do you think of this?

You can make it send it as a text message. After you type the message and hit send, tap and hold on the blue message. Two options will pop up: copy and send as text message. I just figured this out myself.

Thank you. Yes, your method is a good one assuming I am aware that my message will not be delivered (since my wife has no IOS device but is considered by my iPhone to have one). But it stays that I would like to have the send message in green, even with iMessage ON. Why my iPhone considers my wife's ordinary phone as an IOS device and how to definitely stop this?

That is a big issue with imessage right now. No way of deregistering a number or email address from it. Apple should have thought of this before setting up the service. Once something gets associated with imessage it doesn't want to let go. Until Apple fixes it by letting us deregister numbers and email addresses there is no way to fix the problem you are having.

For the time being, iMessage is not usable since your iPhone may recognize a non IOS device as an IOS device. Therefore you never know if an iMessage will be delivered. The best is to switch off iMessage until a new version is to be downloaded.

You may not know if it WILL be delivered, but you will know if it HAS been delivered because it will say delivered. If it hasn't been delivered after a reasonable amount of time, just try sending as a regular text. I agree apple should make its servers check to see if there is still a device using that number with iMessage instead of keeping it linked forever.

That's weird. If it says delivered then it's being received by something. I have a friend who had an iPhone and we used iMessage, but the person whose plan he was on changed to Verizon and he had to get a different phone. Mine tries to automatically send it via iMessage now, but it never says delivered because nothing is receiving it and I have to send as text message.

I start to understand partly where the problem comes from.I have made different test since your last answer:

1. My wife has no iPhone, but has ... an iPad! I discovered that my iMessage were received by the iPad. We did not know this since she never check her messages on her iPad. I do not quite understand the link between her telephone number and her email address but it is a fact : my iMessages sent to her telephone number were received by her iPad.

2. Then I have entered her email adress as an address of iMessage. I have now 2 adresses for her : her telephone number and her email address. When sending an iMessage to her email address, she received it on her iPad. But when sending an iMessage to her Telephone number, she still not receives it, neither on her telephone, nor on her iPad. And it is considered on my iPhone as received. It means that her telephone is still known as an IOS device and that, if the message is delivered somewhere, it is certainly not delivered on her telephone.

Hope these new elements can feed the discussion.

I have an Android phone now and everyone who tries to SMS me gets shown I still have iMessage. I called Apple and they told me they can't fix it unless I pay $29 over the phone! A simple de-registration requires a $29 payout from me. That is appalling.
