Where's the "Clear" button in Maps after upgrading to iOS 5?

Subject pretty much sums it up. After upgrading to iOS 5 I found that they seem to have removed the Clear button from the Directions feature. How can I clear a route in the updated version of the app? Thanks.

So that it would not show my last route. Besides the cancel feature is already in the app; you can simply tap on the map and you get the same result. So there is no reason why there should be the cancel button. Check out iOS4, it worked perfectly there.

...let me summarize:

Why would we need the Cancel button, when one can just tap on the map itself! On the other hand, the clear button was actually useful!

I say, that what the cancel button they put in there does, is the same as when you tap on the map. So why are they putting that there now is beyond me! They took away the clear and now i can not clear it. I am sure a few people will get into trouble when their spouses, etc... check their phone and see what the last route was in the phone. I guess now the only way is to redo the routing with a new route and the clear the history to erase where somebody has gone. I am sure you can imagine scenarios where this might be an issue...

OK. I worked my way into a work-around. While it doesn't truly clear the route, it at least clears the Directions tab from a visible active route.

1. Enter a route thus: START: Current Location, END: Current Location.

For those who get confused when Current Location doesn't automatically populate, you actually have to type it out...and of course spell it correctly.

2. Hit one of the 'Route' buttons. iPhone will get confused and say you can't do this.

3. Hit 'OK'.

4. Tap anywhere on the black part of the screen between the keypad and the route start/end.

5. Voila! You have a clear Directions tab with just the blue dot showing your current location (assuming you push the gps arrow in the lower left if your blue dot isn't visible).

I still find it irritating that they took the clear button away, but this at least provides for a more tidy display when I no longer need a route.

iPhone 5

Just wanted to add instructions on how to clear the recent routes history.

1 Open maps app. to view the actual map screen (not the route screen that shows the routing history).

2 Touch the little book icon in the upper right corner. Then you should see tabs at the bottom of the screen labeled "Bookmarks, Recents, Contacts".

3 Touch the "Recents" tab. Then you should see a list of the past routes you have looked up.

4 Touch the "Clear" tab in the upper left corner. Then you should see 2 options to either "Clear All Recents" or "Cancel".

5 Touch the "Clear All Recents" tab (shown in red). Then you should see the screen wiped clear.

6 Touch the "Done" tab in the upper right corner.

If you still see the very last route on your map: Then touch the "X" on the upper part of the screen, on the left side of the little book icon, located within the Search bar. Then you should only see the blue dot, representing your current location.

I hope this helps.
