Any luck setting up iCloud on Android?

I've switched over to iCloud and now my Samsung Sidekick won't work with my Mac email. Anyone sorted this out yet?

Marten responded by giving me a link to a workaround app needed because of a bug in Android. I installed the app and hopefully will not have the problem anymore. Thanks again.

Yup, there's a few of them round. One of the disadvantages of an open system (like Android) is that phone manufacturers can make changes to suit their needs, so apps don't always work on all Android phones. Good developers supply patches (workaround apps) to combat this. You may have to do it again in the future but Marten is on the ball.

Guys,

Spanner in the works? I have a new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet running Android 4.2.2 that won't set up my mac.com/me.com mail account if its life depended on it. I've tried every possible combination of suggestions on these discussion pages and nothing works. I mainly can't get past the incoming mail settings page that reports 'cannot connect to server'. All my settings and password formats are correct. I even changed my Apple ID password as suggested by some to no avail.

My Samsung Galaxy Note phone running Android 4.1.2 had no problem at all before and after I changed the password and set up automatically from just the mac.com address and password. No further settings were needed.

Android 4.2.2 bugs perhaps?

Anyone have suggestions?

Martin.

.....ps....from what I've read on line, it appears to be Android 4.2.2 on Samsung issue. I downloaded the maildroid app form the Play Store and the standard settings work perfectly when entered manaully (auto set up didn't work). Not only that but having the 'delete on device' or on 'device and server' option I remember from the heady days of Blackberry is a bonus.

Ah well, I'm sure it will be dealt with by Samsung in due course but for now at least the device gets my Mac mail.

ALL,

Galaxy Note 3 Settings. UK Spec on Three Mobile (www.three.co.uk)

I have been able to set this up this morning successfully.

As per apples documentation followed exactly as written, with the exception of the highlighted line which relates top OUT GOING SMTP SETTINGS. I set this to TLS. ;

Server information

IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:

  • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
  • SSL Required: Yes
  • Port: 993
  • Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
  • Password: Your iCloud password

SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:

  • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
  • SSL Required: Yes - I HAD TO SET THIS TO TLS
  • Port: 587
  • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
  • Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
  • Password: Your iCloud password

Note: If you receive errors using SSL, try using TLS instead. SSL is required for both IMAP and SMTP connection with iCloud. POP is not supported by iCloud.

Hi,

Sorry but these are the same settings mentioned in earlier posts and still won't work on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 running Android 4.2.2. The incoming server settings are sent before the outgoing server settings page is loaded up and returns an error message saying "Authentication failed" despite the entered data being scrupulously correct. If by chance with fiddling I get to the outgoing server settings page and enter the info, those correct settings create outgoing mail but I'm still left with no incoming mail as the data entered is constantly rejected.

In the meantime Maildroid works a treat using the same settings rejected by the on board Samsung mail app.

Any ideas?

What can be the issue other than perhaps a need to get my Note 8 tablet on to Android 4.3?

Is there anyone else struggling with 4.2.2 I wonder? My Galaxy Note phone running 4.1.2 has no mail problems at all. I even reinstalled the account on the Note phone just to prove the settings worked and they did.

I'm taking possesion of a Galaxy S4 in about 10 days and will be setting up icloud mail on that hopefully.

Still very puzzled.
