I upgraded to the iPhone 5 and no longer have this problem in my car. I had to get the Lightning to 30-pin adapter to get it to work with my car's iPod kit but it was well worth it since it works and there's no more high-pitched whine/hiss anymore, thank god.

I have a Ford Mondeo from 2009 and i got the static noise when changing from iPhone 4 to 4s. I bought the Kensington Noise Reducing Car Audio AUX Cable and it completely fixed the problem.

SOLUTION:  Press the button on the right by the earphone jack on top of the phone AND the wake up button at the bottom of the phone on the front AT THE SAME TIME.  Hold for severals seconds.  This is a 'hard reset'.  Should fix the noise problem.  This will not erase your downloaded apps, contacts, notes, etc.  This solution is straight from the mouth of Apple.
