Problems with iOS5 on iPhone 3gs

I am using the new iOS5 on an iPhone 3Gs and it seems to have made it a lot slower. It doesnt seem to react properly and even all the sounds are delayed. I also have problems with safari and websites have fuzzy writing when I try to zoom in. What is going on?

Hi, I had a number of issues, performance and operational, after upgrading my 3gs to IOS5. This is what I did to resolve the problem(s).

First backup ALL content to your laptop or PC. I mean everything!

Then select "restore you iPhone" option in iTunes. This will delete everything on the phone. So make sure everything is backed up.

After the restore is complete, choose setup as a "new iPhone". This will run you through the iPhone setup.

After doing the above my iPhone 3gs performed like it used too (performace and battery life).

Once completed you can re-sync your contacts, apps, music, videos, photos, etc.

Note: This procedure worked for me, your mileage may vary.

Cheers!

Hi, I believe the option that is being referred to is Settings/General/Network - Cellular Date. Disabling this option will force all data transfers to be done over Wi-Fi. If this resolves your performance/operational issues then great! In my case no matter which option I enabled/disabled the performance of my iPhone 3gs after the IOS5 upgrade was glacial in speed.

As I stated in my original post, the only choice that worked for me was a fresh install (iPhone reload) and then re-sync my music, photos, contacts, etc. After doing this my iPhone 3gs performs like it did under previous IOS versions. BTW with all options enabled!

Cheers!

actually, the improvement didn't last long. so I did ** (twice - compu' and cloud) and then did restore function, which was faster than it used to be - iTunes didn't download the iOS again, so it must be stored locally (or in iPhone in recovery partition?) - and phone restored seamlessly and function seems much improved.

I didn't say before...but the initial install of iOS5 didn't go swimmingly - however I put that down to user. I hadn't noticed that the screen now is unlocked during sync'ing and so I went and looked (while sync'ing). Not a good idea.

I have similar problems after upgrading 3GS to IOS 5 my iphone 'forgets' my bluetooth devices randomly, sometimes next day other times 2 or 3 days later, it didn't do this before. Also some apps dont work properly namely K8055 Bridge which 'half works' also noted speed problems with typing & other apps seem slow.

IOS 5 update went fine (stalled twice but i put this down to Apple server being swamped with requests)

Is it possible to regress to a previous IOS? one without these issues? or is there an IOS 5 Beta i can try?

Like I've stated in earlier posts, upgrading to IOS5 brought with it a number of issues. After a fresh reload my 3GS performs as it did even with IOS5. I'll lay out the steps again.

1. Backup ALL, everything, to the local computer or iCloud and I do mean everything. The procedure I am explaining will wipe your phone, deleting everything that was. If is is not backed up it will be lost.

2. Restore your iPhone, select as a new iPhone.

3. The IOS5 update will be installed from the image that iTunes has locally (will not need to download again)

4. Once reloaded, run through the brief iPhone setup

5. Update all of your APPS in iTunes. This will make sure that your APPS are IOS5 compatible

6. Once completed you can re-sync your contacts, apps, music, videos, photos, etc.

After doing this I have not had any issues with my 3GS running IOS5.

Good luck

Hi, when i updated the software to the ios 5.0.1 my iphone has been switching itself on and off every few minutes. i have tried backing the phone to the computer but it wont stay on long enough for it to back up as it usually only gets half way before switching off again so i tried backing up to icloud but similiar problam as the phone goes off again. im really at wits end with the whole thing because i dont want to restore the phone without having some sort of backup! can anyone help or suggest anything? i have tried holding the two buttons in for 10 seconds until the apple logo appears but this had no affect on the phone.
