How to check what is in the iCloud storage files?

I just set up my iCloud account. After backing up my iPad and iPhone, the account is saying almost full, buy more storage. In checking each device I find the iPad has used 400 mb; iPhone 700. Not close to 5GB. I can't seem to find out what exactly is now filling up my 5GB...any thoughts would be appreciated.
