I'm having the same problems as many of the posters. About 50% of the the calls I make don't go through !

I make a call and it looks normal, the counter is counting the call but I don't hear anything on the phone. I'm not sure if people hear me on the other side ( I haven't asked) but some have called me back asking of I was trying to call them.

It's pretty annoying. I never had this problem on my Iphone 4, only on my 4s. C'mon Apple, fix this problem and put out an update asap or I'm returning my phone !

By the way, I'm with AT&T.

I have just gotten in the habit of, when I make a call, I hit speaker phone on and off and then that seems tO take care of it. For me, it's clearly an audio selection issue. I turned off Siri lift to speak and that seems to be helping, but I haven't made many calls since doing so.

I am having same problems, normally works second call but soemtimes have to recall twice for microphone/ear speaker to work. Also, sometmes seems to drop calls when signal not that bad, loses voice out first.

Just adding my name to the list of a certain amount of calls where neither side can hear each other yet the call timer says all is good. 4s 32 gb.

Having the same issue in Sweden, so it seems to me that there is either a batch of bad iPhone 4S's out or a sorftware issue. I mainly cannot make calls the first time, then get "No service" and then it will work again for a few minutes.

I have the same problem in UK... It's clear that is another fault of the combination of IOS 5.0 and IPhone 4s... My girlfriend has updated her iPhone 4 to IOS 5.0, but she hasn't that problem.

The signal reception is very poor and my iPhone 4s shows for long period "NO SIGNAL" ( even if my IPad shows full coverage and both devices have the same carrier).

I've also noted that the display of IPhone 4s seems to be yellow compared with the display of IPhone 4... I' m really disappointed about IPhone 4s: it lasts less than 10 hours, it has a bad quality of signal, SIRI works on IPhone 4 as well... At the end I have a phone that looks like IPhone 4, it's more expensive and it works worst

I had the exact same problems.  I tried mulitple restores but finally fixed the problem by doing a restore as a new iphone DFU mode.  If you want to solve the problem, you have to put the phone in DFU mode THEN restore as a new iphone.  I have to iPhone 4s, one that had this problem and one that did not.  They are both working perfectly since I put the problematic phone in DFU mode then did the restore as a new iPhone.  Problem solved.   Try it.  But you have to put the phone in DFU mode first while it's plugged into iTunes, THEN restore as a new iphone.

If the friendly folks at Apple support would combine the postings here with those on https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3404857 and maybe others, they might discover a pattern and make some sort of statement about this problem.

Okay, Here is my update. Spoke with customer support last Friday the 28th. They quickly researched it and came back and stated that it was a hardware issue. They set me up with an apointement at my local Apple Store for Saturday where they replaced it. So far so good no issues. I will keep everyone posted if that changes.
