slide show runs slow

trying to make a slide show in Aperture but the system keeps bogging down and I get the spinning beach ball. If I click on project or folder to get out of the slide show things go back to normal but even when I click on a project or folder I have to wait until Aperture catches up to click before it leaves the slide show...dd
