iPhone 4s sms/text message tone is double when receiving a message, using tri-tone?

Mine is doing the same thing. Have you figure it out yet ???

same problem with 3GS. it plays not twice but many times...😠

Add me to the list, this is not fixed by a restart or reset. Also, have you noticed if your vibrate stops functioning with tones after a few messages?

I did a restart and it fixed its self. As for the vibrate I have had no problem with it.

My 3gs has been doing the same, as if it has a stutter. Getting rather annoyed with it now, especially if I have my iphone on the stereo dock listening to the music, as it interferes with playback.

Same issue w/ my 4s. It's like the tri-tone stutters and then after a few texts, the vibrate function will stop. Weird.

My new 4s is doing it as well. Does anyone know how to fix it yet? I really like the tri tone for text messages.

My new iPhone 4s does this. Restarting seems to temporarily fix the issue, but it quickly starts happening again...Very irksome.

Same problem for me with my iPhone 4S. Neither restarting nor a hard reboot have fixed the problem. It's especially annoying when the person's message is split into two because then I get four tones.

I just discovered that it's related to iMessage. If you have the e-mail sound turned on in settings-sounds-new mail, it give you one tone for the iMessage and the second tone because you are receiving the iMessage at your e-mail address. This seems to me like it's a bug and that they should only give one tone for an iMessage and still allow us to receive tones for e-mails. Hopefully it'll be fixed in the next iOS release! :) As a workardoun until then, if you turn off the email sound, you'll only get one tone for a message, but you won't get any e-mail tones.

I did what you said, but that dint work either! I changed the email notification to NONE, even the new voicemail notification, but that did not made any difference to the problem, Just to let you guys know, I restored the iphone, and the problem did get solved but just for couple of hours, so there is no need to reboot, restart, restore or anything like that, this problem is in the IOS 5 and can be solved just when the apple people would do something!! BUT this Text Tone problem is Seriously annoying me now!! aaargh!

As Teacher Mac pointed out the issue seems to be related to Imessage and the email tones fighting with the SMS tone.

I did as he advised and selected no tone for email and it worked for a while but is now stuttering again.

Very frustrating,lets hope a fix appears soon. 😕

Ok i am having this same problem with my 4s, the whole double text tone. but the thing is its not just iMessage, my facebook tones do it too, and im using the tweet tone for texts so i know its not just the tri tone. For the past few days its been doing a double stutter, but for some reason it just started a tripple stutter. like its trying to **** with me. it knows im searching for the solution, so its messing with my head. This needs to stop!!😢
