What is the difference between the blue and green text bubbles (outgoing)?

A green text bubble indicates that a message is being sent as a text, and out of any text package you may have. Blue indicates that you and the receiver are both using iMessage, which is not a text message since it uses data.

Can you clarify a bit more? My son and I are both on the same AT&T plan. I have a 4s and he has a 3gs. His bubbles come in green and only those messages coming in from an iPhone 4 or above come in blue. Is it because the 3gs does not have the same messaging features? Thanks!

I was told that when you send a message to another ios5 user it is blue, if not, it is green.

The 3gs most certainly can have the same feature. You do need to make sure he has updated to iOS 5. Once iOS 5 is running on his 3gs, he will be able to turn on his iMessage feature so that his messages can go through blue as well. Check to make sure his phone is updated first, then be sure that iMessage is turned on in his settings. Hope that helps!

That's almost true. An iPhone user does have to have iOS 5, but they also need to have the iMessage feature turned on.
