Find my iPhone App

How can I use the Find My iphone app to track my wife's phone, using her separate icloud account, with my phone or vice versa? This service would be pretty useless to us if we had to go find a computer if we actually lose one of our phones.

Using Find My iPhone is the only way you'll get password protection (that I am aware of) if that's what you're after. Or I guess you can put a passcode on your phone but for me that's too much of a hassle. I have both apps on my phone and hubbys phone. That way we'll have the find and wipe feature if needed. But to just check out location I think the Friends app will be great. I like that I don't have to put in his password. I guess it all depends on what your needs and uses are and everyone is different.

Why don't you send some feed back to Apple, since they are the authors of Find My Friends, and suggest a password protect option that you can turn on within the app or in Settings for the app.

My wife and I have been using Find My iPhone to locate each other if needed. However Push notifications must be on for the devices to be located. Because of battery drain and the fact that we neither want nor need emails pushed to our phones I would rather turn Push off. I've played with the Fetch and manual settings and they have no effect on emails being pushed.

I was told by someone else that Push does not need to be on with the Find My Friends app. Is this true? If any of you have used both what are differences between the two apps? Our only use of either app would just be as a way to locate each other or a lost phone if necessary.

I tried out both with push off. It worked on each one like it should so you have no worries there.

The only difference that I see on Find My Friends is that your can "follow" more than one person. It still requires entering the password - however it's your password not the other persons. However, I think if you have a passcode set on your phone that entering your password into the app isn't required. In FMF, you can also "hide" when you'd like and if anyone is using it for their kids, restrictions can be placed where they can't turn off the FMP feature without a passcode. FMF has other features like being able to designate an address as home, work, gym, etc and it also shows their contact info that you have store in your phone. It does require an invitation to be accepted. An email is sent as well as an invite within the app.

When I've turned Push off on any device that device is not locatable by Find My iPhone either from another device or on the iCloud web site. That's why I was interested in the Find My Friends app. When I turn Push off with Find My iPhone I get either "device has location services off or device is off line". But really my wife and I are only interested in locating each other if necessary. There are a couple of apps that require Push to be on so I may just leave things as they are.
