I stoped using the email that was my apple id but now it wount let me swtich it to my current email. because it is an @me.com. but I never put it as an alternate, i just apeared there.

I very much would like an answer to this too. i have a primary apple ID that is an outdated email address.
I want to make one of mey alternate IDs the primary ID but can't figure out how to change that.
I deleted my alternate ID (the one I want to use as primary) and tried to add it as the primary ID but now I'm just told the email address is in use... it isn't. I deleted it.
How do I make a previous alternate ID be my primary ID?

To change your Apple ID email address go to itunes store, then go to your email address which will be on the top right corner of the store. Click on the little arrow and click Account. Your account info will show up. Click edit which will be beside your email address. Then change it. There ya go! Hope I helped.
Thanks. I know how to change the Apple ID. The problem I have is that I am trying to change my Apple ID to edwardsanborn@gmail.com. That email address was my rescue email address until earlier today when I changed my rescue email address to something else. So now I want to change my Apple ID to edwardsanborn@gmail.com but the error I get is:
Email address is already verified for another Apple ID.
How do I eliminate that? Or at least how do I found out which other Apple ID edwardsanborn@gmail.com is verified to?
I'm actually having the same problem too. I used to have and email address which is the one i made on my ipod off wifi. But it did not recognize that one on itunes on the computer. Anyone else out there know how to solve this?

I am having the same problem. Earlier today I removed my rescue e-mail address so that I could replace my primary ID with it. Now I cannot use it as my primary ID or put it back as an alternate or my rescue ID again. Attempts to do either result in the message that the address is already in use by another account. Umm, yes, that would be my account... Now why can't I put it back of I were able to 'delete' it?
And the Support responses here are inaccurate and do not address the question asked.

Hi, I'm having the same problem - I want to swap the email addresses for my two apple IDs so i have used a third to free up one at a time. I have changed one but when I try to replace the second apple ID with it I get a message saying that its in use by another account (which would be mine, the one I just removed). Did anyone ever get this sorted out? Cheers
