Push email does not work (iCloud)

Since the update to icloud the push email does not work anymore. Im only talking about the me.com adress no Yahoo oder other Emails. I didnt changed the Mail settings and pushing mails worked fine before the update to icloud.

Example:

When i switched on the phone in the morning the mails i received during the night immediately got pushed to the iphone. That doesnt work anymore. It only receives the mails when i switch to the mail app.

Any suggestions anyone?!? 😟

Im using newest iOS 5 with an iPhone 4S and migrated my old me.com account to iCloud.

Has this been even remotely addressed by Apple yet? Loads of us loyal Apple customers who had mobileme cannot receive pushed e-mail from our aliases.

I often get calls from people saying "Haven't you got my e-mail?". In today's age we should not have to manually check our e-mail when every cruddy little app sends us a push notification by default to tell us they want us to spend more money on the app store.

This is absolutely ridiculous. WAKE UP APPLE! You are losing customers in droves to superior products.

I have never ever received any type of acknowledgement from any person I have spoken with at Apple Care regarding this issue. All I ever hear is "that's a shame and I'll try and help you fix it" The problem reared it's ugly head again last night. Four emails never came through to my IPhone over a three hour period. If I did not have my IPad with me, I would have never known they arrived unless I constantly checked for mail on the phone. Then, like magic new mails came through on the phone. Just so very frustrating. I have tried every fix suggested and still am in this limbo.

Hi, I am trying to help a friend with the problem of not having push email working (on his Iphone 5) for his ICloud email account. He has to open the email app to see if he has new mail. Have tried all the suggested fixes except wiping the phone and reloading. Does anyone have a definitive solution? I can't understand why Apple has not published one. Thanks.

I really wish I could give you a true solution, but I can't. I am fairly certain that the solution is a fix on the ICloud end, something only Apple can do. As you probably know the problem comes and goes. There are many of us with this problem. I refuse to wipe the phone and restore as new again, as it is a very time consuming process and has never permanently cured the issue

I have been unable to get email pushed to my iCloud account for over a month now. It also happened last year for a spell before something "reset". This is clearly an iCloud back-end issue because I have reproduced this problem with this iCloud account on numerous devices including an Apple retail store employee's phone and an Apple technical support representative's iPad. I have been working with many people at Apple (phone tech support, Apple retail genius, and engineering) for about 3 weeks and no solution yet from their engineering team. There's been suggestion that I might need to migrate to a new iCloud account which I think is unacceptable so we'll see what it comes to.

The strange thing is despite all these reports of problems, they (Apple) seem to have no idea (at least communicated to me) that this is a wide spread issue. I'm doing my best to let them know many other's have the issue but who knows if/when a global fix can be made.

I know the majority of you have already done what needed to happen to where it is "supposed to" worki.e. verified the three places in Settings on your phone, reset, restore, update iOS, restart while crossing your eyes and hopping on one leg, etc. Still, the stupid thing works for some and not for others. This post is not for you.

For those of you who are here for the first time and have not started trouble-shooting... here are the settings I have on my phone. I had an issue with PUSH notifications only one time, and it was resolved within the hour that I noticed it. There are three different places in settings that can affect PUSH notifications. However, there are people who did the exact same thing I did, and yet it still did not work. So, this is just a "first things first" post.

Section 1

  • Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Fetch New Data > Push ON
  • Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Fetch New Data > Advanced > iCloud account > Push

Section 2

  • Settings > Notifications > iCloud account > Notification Center ON
  • Settings > Notifications > iCloud account > Alert Style > Banners
  • Settings > Notifications > iCloud account > Badge App Icon ON

Section 3

  • Settings > General > Cellular > Cellular Data ON
  • Settings > General > Cellular > Roaming > Data Roaming ON

I'm sincerely sorry if these settings do not work for you. Still, I hope this helps at least some of you.

I firmly believe that this is not an IOS issue, but an ICloud issue, meaning there is a setting somewhere on Apple's end in ICloud that has gotten messed up somehow and that it is so random and buried in the code that is is hard for them to find it, since the majority of users are fine. I don't know enough about the whole process to intelligently address the issue, but everything we the users have done, have generally resulted in more of a band aid than a complete solution.

I've had the same problem with email not pushing - ever since I went reluctantly to iCloud. I suspect that there will not be an improvement in this service. Maybe Apple is thinking that more people will opt for an Apple iCloud email account and stop using any email account that doesn't push as well. I have had a non-Apple email account for over 10 years (and it works fine but won't push.) I need push so I'll probably switch to iCloud mail. That seems to me like something Apple might have anticipated would be the outcome of no longer supporting non-Apple mail and why would they want to "fix" a problem like that when they can possibly integrate more users into iCloud?

I just created a new iCloud email address which is pushing fine.

I have both iCloud accounts set up on my device that I just recently restored, and one (the new one) receives mail via push and the other just ignores any test messages unless I manually refresh mail. This tells me it's somehow related to the account, although I have no clue what it would be.

What gives?

In my opinion you answered your own question. It is with the settings that ICloud has set for your original account. There is a glitch somewhere in the chain that pushes to the IPhone but not to an IPad or computer. It appears to only happen to certain accounts and random situations. I believe this is why it is so difficult to correct. I imagine if ICloud would allow one to completely remove an account and then allow one to resign up for a new account YET retain the original email address that the issue might be resolved as per your example of getting a new ICloud account. I have used my original Apple email address since the beginning of Apple email. There is no way I could reach out to the countless individuals who have my email and let them know its changed. It is also associated with my business contacts. So I'm basically stuck with this. At least the email works and that is really all we can hope for. The push thing is purely a convenience.
