Oct 30, 2011 3:35 PM in response to marcwiegelmannby keithfromoakville,Having the same problem here....except all e-mail and contacts and calendar work inconsistantly. The cloud and iphone 4s seem to be the root of the problem.
Apple doesn't seem to have any answers other than restoring the unit.....which will make it work between 3 hours and 3 days before it eventually shuts itself down again.
I even have a joint venture account and they haven't been able to get it to work either. There is a reason you are on hold for over an hour before you can talk with a support specialist at apple.
Simply stated.... The iphone 4s was not tested well and the icloud does not work.
Anyone looking to purchase these devices needs to look at android because ipohone does not work.
Hope this sheds some light for people on Apple stuff,
new to apple user

Oct 30, 2011 5:59 PM in response to keithfromoakvilleby joannebaca,I have a regular iPhone 4 and iCloud is not working. It seems like the calendar feature is working but not the email or the address book either. I am going to try the suggestion about turning off Push and setting a 15 minute fetch and see if that works. I REALLY MISS MOBILE ME!!!!

Oct 30, 2011 9:09 PM in response to joannebacaby joannebaca,Well, I changed my setting as in my last post - email (Yahoo from iPhone to iCloud): not working; address book: changes made on IPhone not showing up on Mac or iCloud. Looks like the appointment I put on my iCloud showed up on my Mac Calendar and my iPhone.
Looks like I have 3 separate address books now - I'll have to hand enter to the iPhone AND the Mac, so sc**wiCloud - won't count on that at all.
As far as email is concerned, I still get Yahoo on my iPhone and on my Mac using Entourage and Mac Mail, so that works.
I'm REALLY glad I didn't pay for iCloud but I'm really sorry I paid $14.95 for the iCloud photo app. What a waste.
I hate ICloud.

Oct 30, 2011 11:58 PM in response to joannebacaby cflowers81,Obviously they are having some teething problems with iCloud. Talk of running off to Android is just crazy. There is no other company in the world that will look after you like Apple. Who else can offer the same support as being able to walk into an Apple store and speaking to a real person? You may not get a fix immediately, but you'll get a fix. Patience. Until then, fetch.
For the record I'm having no issue with any other part of iCloud. Calendar and contacts work fine.

Oct 31, 2011 11:16 AM in response to marcwiegelmannby bakdoc,Same issue here, just did a hard boot on iphone and all is well.........for now, not sure how long it will work for. Not sure if this is a solution or temp fix?

Oct 31, 2011 1:09 PM in response to marcwiegelmannby alfredo1,I believe it ihas something to do with the listener timing out is because mine actually works very well MOST of the time. Throughout most days I'm fine, but occasionally I wake up in the morning and I have zero new emails. Once I fetch, all the new ones come in. Now I notice that there was a 2+ hour between emails over night so that might have something to do with it (timing out?). After that, push no longer works until I reset my phone. Once I reset, push works beautifully again and continues to work for long stretches at a time.
Apparently the message listeners are being killed either on app close, crashing somewhere along the way or timing out when they should be running at all times (regardless of the mail app running or not). Might have been done to conserve battery life, not sure. But I assume they should be running at all times as a background service, with or without the email app running. Will probably get fixed on next release (5.0.1).
I am an old MobileMe user migrated to iCloud using same mobile me address, 3GS to 4S, on AT&T.

I was in this thread at the very begining. I've done nothing to my phone. No rebooting or any of the remedies suggested. The issue is intermittent. I will have a bad day and then perfect service for a while. I get enough emails to know when I'm having a bad service day. Saturday was bad. Since yesterday push has been extremely fast. Your explanation can make a lot of logical sense. This will all get sorted out.

Oct 31, 2011 1:25 PM in response to tebby alfredo1,Hey Teb, Mine sometimes does "begin" to work again just by reopening the mail app if the mail app has been killed (double click home, force close mail), but I'm not sure if it is just coincidence. Might be as you said, just intermittent. I haven't been able to successfully reproduce the issue consistently. sometimes killing the mail app does breaks push after leaving it closed for 5-10 minutes, sometimes after going a few hours without an e-mail it seems to "break" again. not sure. Mine seems to work well when it's working (don't miss any, and they get pushed immediately), then zero when it's down. Do you notice any coincidences when it's NOT working? Slow/busy mail day, mail app closed, connected on wifi/cellular?
I'm trying to post as specific as possible in hopes that the Apple developers are monitoring the threads and maybe something clicks.

Oct 31, 2011 5:31 PM in response to marcwiegelmannby matutemats,Im in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and same problem here.
Since migration from MobileMe to iCloud, I had intermitent or even no email service from iCloud.
I have an iPhone 3GS running iOS 5.
Apple should be working on it. (I suppose).

Nov 1, 2011 10:55 AM in response to marcwiegelmannby fallsilent19,Works on my iPad 2 wifi but not on my iPhone 4 both running iOS 5. If I hard reset my iPhone 4 it will start receiving e-mail for a day or so then stops again.

Nov 1, 2011 5:00 PM in response to fallsilent19by dnair, folks, I am still having this push email failure as well. Failure on my ip4 but not on ipad/ipad2.
Did some troubleshooting and found icloud backup turned on, on the iphone, but off on ipads???
Try turning icloud backup off......settings, icloud, storage and backup, icloud backup!!!
Who knows, might be it???
later!
