Mar 26, 2012 11:50 AM in response to marcwiegelmannby UKMackid,For some reason, my iPhone receives mail via push in the day but not at night. Whereas my iPad is the opposite. However, GMail via exchange is working perfectly.

Mar 26, 2012 2:09 PM in response to marcwiegelmannby ohneSchatten,So, over 5 months from the original post in this thread and I want to add my ME TOO to the chorus.
iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1
Push has stopped working for me as well for, what, 2 weeks? Could be longer. Only getting mail by fetching manually. On recommendation from another contributor here I have just changed my Fetch schedule from Manually to Every 15 Minutes. Rebooted device too.
Will shall see.
I bet this is all related to the MobileMe to iCloud migration. Just wished Apple was a little more forthcoming in advance, when they know a process or processes will be under construction. At least we know what to expect for a while. And then there's the problem of releasing products, services and/or solutions that are half-baked, sometimes quarter-baked. I understand all about competition and needing to be on one's toes but please, Apple, hire some quality QA people.

Mar 27, 2012 11:38 AM in response to UKMackidby ohneSchatten,A day after my last post on this topic and Push seems to be in working order again, at least for me. Not sure if they fixed what may have been broken or if it's the result of having set my Fetch sched to Every 15 Minutes (from Manually). Cheers.

Mar 27, 2012 11:49 AM in response to ohneSchattenby jimmypowder,My iCloud account was pushing properly to my iPad and iPhone for about 1 week until today! Now it is not pushing to my iPhone but it is to my iPad . I'm using wifi only on my iPad . My setting on my iPhone is to push and fetch 15 minutes.
Frustrating !!! It's clearly a problem with ICloud.

Mar 27, 2012 12:41 PM in response to jimmypowderby ohneSchatten,Oh no, sorry to hear. Did you dig deep into your Mail settings in iOS? Namely:
Fetch New Data -> Push (On) -> Fetch (Every 15 Minutes) -> Advanced -> iCloud (Push)

Mar 28, 2012 10:48 AM in response to marcwiegelmannby alfredo1,I've discovered something maybe some others note as well. I was one of the posters on this forum early on as my push was not working well. After the restores and reconfigures it began working almost perfectly up until recently. Recently I installed an access point at my office, which is not always connected to the internet. I noticed if I come in to the office and my phone automatically connects to the office wifi, but it has no connection to the outside internet, my push "breaks". It thinks it's connected to the internet via wifi (logged into wifi) but actually has no connection. Only when I either turn off wifi, or move out of range (back to 3G/4G, whatever), restart the mail app does the push resume. it looks like if going into a "known" connection with no outside access, push stops working. But it's actually the first time I was able to replicate the problem.
This might make sense to me as to the intermittent/unexplained outtages. I had occasional overnight "outtages" which might have been my router dropping my internet connection (or going into sleep mode), or possibly going into a kown network automatically (say a starbucks, staples, B&N) where I must accept terms to access outside 'net. Could be that icloud is not resetting back after no network access, or switching to cellular data? Does this make any sense?

Mar 28, 2012 10:55 AM in response to alfredo1by jimmypowder,I absolutely believe you are on to something here .
My wifi only iPad never has problems with push mail
But when my iPhone goes from 3G to my
Office wifi , that's when the problems begin .
I was gone all of last week and was almost
Always on 3G , and guess what no problems
With push mail at all .
It is the switchover from 3G to a known
Wifi access point stored on your iPhone
That is the problem !!

Mar 28, 2012 11:22 AM in response to jimmypowderby UKMackid,In response to the above, my iPhone, which switches between 3G and my home network sometimes receives mail by push, whereas my wifi only iPad which stays at home and never leaves the network is receiving no push mail at all. In fact my GMail exchange account even stopped pushing today. I migrated from MobileMe with zero problems. Since updating to 5.1 and buying a new iPad I have had nothing but problems.

Mar 28, 2012 11:24 AM in response to jimmypowderby ohneSchatten,It's been 2 days of Push in my iOS device working fine again. But for the 2 or so weeks when Push appeared to be disabled, being on WiFi or 3G or in between made absolutely no difference. It may be pure coincidence but when I changed Fetch from Manually to Every 15 Minutes that's the day Push came back for me. But again, it may be just coincidence.

Mar 28, 2012 3:22 PM in response to marcwiegelmannby mricci,My icloud @me.com email still does not push to my adequately upgraded iphone4. I've posted a lot here, but I thought I'd comment since it's been a while and just in case any of the over 60,000 employees give a rip about anything other than making ipads.
Like I said, WE (those of us former mobileme users) willingly paid for email, cloud data storage, and sync service. $100 a year for the love of god! To ignore us is an abomination and a denegration to the life of Steve Jobs. I'm not saying that he would have been attending to this issue personally or staying up nights scouring the discussion boards, but I'm talking about the mindset. He was obsessed with making products as close to perfect as humanly possible. Whoever is in charge of viewing these posts (all 33 pages, over 65,000 views, and almost 500 replies), needs to pull their head out and tell people to fix this...NOW! It's a real problem.
On a lighter note, since all of my attempts to bring this up to the all-powerful yet un-educated in any sort of computer science "Geniuses" at several Apple Stores has been met with blank stares and ridiculous solutions like restarting...what can I do? How do I contact them? What is express service? I want to speak to a human being about this and I don't know where to start...other than developing a peachier attitude.
-
Mar 28, 2012 3:34 PM in response to marcwiegelmannby lsjrlsjr,I was at the Apple Store a few days ago. I asked the 'Genius' if he heard about the issue. He looked something up, was reading off comments and acknowledging that the complaints were there and I asked if he was looking at the Apple Forums and he said, "No this is something WE get." Whatever that means.
I told him I'd have waited until June had I known this would be such a long unaddressed issue. He said, "I bet when MobileMe is done and everyone transfers over, it'll be fixed then. It's probably just an issue of them being stuck in between right now."
Not sure if that's even something feasible but if it's June before it 'might' be fixed, that'd be about 8 months that they let this go on for...8 months too long.
As for the 3G, 4G, WiFi connection speculation brought up a bit ago...I don't think that's the problem. I have the NO PUSH MAIL whether I switch back/forth or not.
This is just ridiculous. I can't believe Macrumors or Mossberg or someone in the blogosphere/press hasn't addressed this. That would certainly get some much needed attention.

Mar 30, 2012 3:18 PM in response to marcwiegelmannby mricci,Okay. I think I may have something here. I spoke to several people at Apple...thus far, I've sent myself like 20 emails waiting for it not to push so I can laugh in their face and say, "I told you so!", however that is not the case...yet.
So, without further ado, here is what we did:
- Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
- Click on your account and delete it (especially if it is just your @me.com account)
- Go back to Settings > iCloud
- Sign in and follow prompts (select what you want to merge/sync)
Right...so I asked what the deal was and apparently under mail, contacts, calendars i was signed in as my email address (_______@me.com). After the above steps, it is now appearing as iCloud. She said there is a descrepency there.
So, I am chosing to believe this is the solution. Basically, the process the phone takes you through when switching from mobileme to icloud is not right because I think that's what we all did and alas- 33 pages later.
I REALLY hope this helps. Please let me know if it does.
Mike

Mar 30, 2012 3:50 PM in response to mricciby Impaler80s,You know, I keep hearing folks are coming up with the "perfect solution", but they don't work--consistently and reliably. Bottom line: push is BROKEN and should just work as advertised. Apple has no idea how to fix it, or they'd have it done. 100M iCloud users and growing will continue to be aggrivated about this - and it is not working as designed. We can only speculate about what the issue is.
The best explanation I've heard in this therad regarding the data problems is the "dirty database" theory...that makes total sense to me.

Mar 30, 2012 4:22 PM in response to Impaler80sby mricci,Trust me, I totally agree with you. I've tried every single one of these ridiculous solutions. But, this one is from a MobileMe support person and mine is now working "flawlessly" (which is something I haven't been able to say in months). I honestly think it might be their workflow when transfering on your phone. Seriously, I don't want to believe it either.
