Q: Push email does not work (iCloud)

Since the update to icloud the push email does not work anymore. Im only talking about the me.com adress no Yahoo oder other Emails. I didnt changed the Mail settings and pushing mails worked fine before the update to icloud.

 

Example:

When i switched on the phone in the morning the mails i received during the night immediately got pushed to the iphone. That doesnt work anymore. It only receives the mails when i switch to the mail app.

 

Any suggestions anyone?!?

 

Im using newest iOS 5 with an iPhone 4S and migrated my old me.com account to iCloud.

    I saw a somehow similar procedure on the iCloud troubleshooting page. One minute my iPhone isn't pushing mail at all, the other it's pushing instantly. As I said, I don't kow how long it will hold but it sure did fix my problem !

    Ten minutes ago one e-mail message successfully pushed through 3G on my iPhone 4. I immediately sent myself an e-mail from another mailbox. And it pushed successfully in 5 minutes. No setting or preferences modified since iCloud transition.

    Thanks for posting. This worked for me if I did step 5 before 4 (didn't work the other way around), and within step 5 I went to iCloud-push before turning on the push slider in the previous screen. Didnt need to perform the last restart. Hope this sticks...

    MysticSage71's steps worked for me last night and is still working great today. Thanks for the info Mystic! I also did step 5 before 4. I hope it keeps working from now on.

    Push seems to work again. Seems a little bug in iPhone iOS5.

    I did nothing and my push seems to be working better again. It does seem to be intermittent.

     

    I cant remember what the shortest interval was for "fetch" before iOS 5 but I thought it was shorter than 15 minutes. Did that change? I have 5 emals set on my iPhone so it is a treat trying to figure out how fast I'm getting mail. I also haven't completely figured out the notification screen. It doesn't seem 100% consistent.

    Thanks MysticSage71 - your solution has worked for me too. I'd been having the same push email problem on my iPhone 4S - very frustrating as it made the new notification centre redundant. All good now. Cheers!

    I did have success with MysticSage71's suggestion and I'll tell you guys what I found out.

     

    I found out that doing the steps in order worked for me.  I did not need to do step #6 and restart the phone.  For others, doing step 5 before 4 worked, but that was not the case for me.

     

    Also, I noticed that for an email to push the mail app has to be running in the background using multitasking.  It would not come through if it isn't running.

     

    These steps that MysticSage posted worked immediately and any emails that hadn't been pushed were then pushed immediately.  I did this last night and as of this morning everything is still functional.  Cross your fingers.

    I also did the suggestion of MysticSage71. But it did not work for long coz once I killed the app in the background. None of my emails aren't being pushed again. You're right Alexbird push only works when the mail app is running in the background. It totally defeats the purpose of Push.

    @teb: Forget 15 minutes push should be more like 15 seconds !

     

    @alexbird: Immediately after doing the procedure, the mail app didn't have to be opened in the background for it to push. (I tested it) This morning it has to be for my iPhone to push. I guess we can't go around that if we don't want to repeat the steps everyday...

    So I guess most people are having success this way:

    7-Leave Mail app running in the background

    After testing, it seems that when you first do the steps, push will work when the mail app is closed, but as soon as you open it once, it needs to stay open for your mails to push again. If you reboot, you will have push with the mail app closed UNTIL you open it once. So bottom line: you need to keep your mail app running in the background, which to me, isn't too much of a bother and I don't see that defying the point of using iCloud...

     

    **EDIT: Sometimes it will push even after mail app has been open and closed... Intermittent problem I guess...

    Yes,

    I've done nothing and my push is now working fine. So, it seems like an intermittent problem (like the inability to send mail a week or so ago). I think it is really just some more of the iCloud/iOS 5 teething pains.

    It bothers me because it's a native apple app yet it's not working like how it should be. I would understand if this is a third app and but it's not.

    HI all,

    I've also had issues with push on all my email accounts on my iPhone 4S (yahoo, gmail, and icloud). I just tried mysticsages suggestion hoping that it fixes the issue for me as well.

    OK tried the fix as noted.  Fails for me.  Only thing that will get my me.com to get pushed emails is by keeping the mail app running in background. 

     

    Here's a recap for my iphone4s.  For my me.com account:

    Push ON/Fetch ON  =  No mail if mail app is not in background.  Even after 15mins.

    Push ON/Fetch OFF=  No mail if mail app is not in background.

    Push OFF/Fetch ON= I will get mail around 15mins if I set it to 15mins.

     

    Here's something SCARY.  I use Pocket Informant.  I don't touch iCal.  If I update something in PI (Pocket Informant) and iCal is NOT running, it will push to the icloud. BUT  I just edited something on my home computer,  it will push to iCloud,  and my PI never gets the update UNTILL I OPENED iCal in the background.  Sound familiar??  Pushed email/calendar events won't get pushed down to the iPhone4s (mine anyways) unless the programs are running in background.

     

    Anybody can confirm this?

     

    Hello Apple?  Is someone checking this?
