Q: Push email does not work (iCloud)

Since the update to icloud the push email does not work anymore. Im only talking about the me.com adress no Yahoo oder other Emails. I didnt changed the Mail settings and pushing mails worked fine before the update to icloud.

Example:

When i switched on the phone in the morning the mails i received during the night immediately got pushed to the iphone. That doesnt work anymore. It only receives the mails when i switch to the mail app.

Any suggestions anyone?!?

Im using newest iOS 5 with an iPhone 4S and migrated my old me.com account to iCloud.

So, you did try to remove your iCloud account and nothing worked. Because, I had a chat with the MobileMe advisor and I did everything that she asked me to do and nothing worked. So, the only thing she said was to remove the iCloud account and re-add it. If the issue still persists, she suggested that it would be escalated to the Engieering or Senior level.

Yes, I did remove my iCloud account and then reinstalled it. I'll put a call into the MobileMe advisor and see if they'll escalate the issue.

Please let us know what they say. I will try to delete and re-add iCloud account to see if the issue still persists. Thanks.

I tried deleting iCloud, restarting the device and then re-adding iCloud. No luck. The issue still persists. The emails are not being pushed. Will be contacting MobileMe support again.

    Gang,

look through these pages, and you'll see the best solution is to close the mail app on the iOS device when done using it - it seems to produce the best push.  Otherwise it's just simply flawed software.  Period.  No amount of adding, removing, re-adding will make a darn bit of difference.

But what I don't understand is why, in my case, it worked absolutely perfectly until late Wednesday/early Thursday, and has completely stopped since then.  If I didn't change my software in that time, doesn't that mean it had to be a change on Apple's side?

I have tried closing the Mail App so many times and re-opening it to see if this fixed the issue and no luck here either.

This thread is unreal. I was an early poster on the thread. All these fixes are useless. Some days push isn't working properly. I just go in and check my mail and it will fetch the mail. Eventually push seems to reset and starts working again on its own.

Should have stopped notifications on this thread eons ago. There is nothing that anyone has said in months that has consistently worked or fixed it.  With more than 100mm people on iCloud if this were a huge issue there would be more than 600 posts after so many months.

Do I want it to work properly, yes. On the other hand for the times it isn't working how hard is it to just check your email?

I agree with you completely. It isn't hard to check mails when it isn't working. But, it is a hassle to get back to old school when you are accustomed to new technology and its advantages. In a few days, I may stop complaining. However, I have been a paid MobileMe and .Mac customer since ages and I would expect good service. Anyways, leaving these things aside, I just hope it starts to work again, else will go back to fetch the iCloud emails from here on.

Btw, to update everyone, MobileMe support said that they cannot do anything as its iOS software related and asked me to talk to iPhone and iPad support. I spent another 1 hr and they sent me a diagnostics link and later asked me to restore both the devices to "new" before they could escalate it to their Engineers. I just can't go there again, as I have tons of apps and data and re-downloading everything with changing the settings as I want would take me half a day at the least for my iPhone and iPad. What a nightmare!

I've had the same problem for 3 days. I've restored as a new phone (it took 4hours to get everything back) that didn't help I also deleted my iCloud account and re-added it,  no luck.  I've been told my case has been escalated to the engineers, but theri out till Tuesday! On a side note... If I add my yahoo email account to my iPhone that email get push notifications just fine! So this is 100% an issue with apple. I don't have high hopes for the engineers getting to the bottom of this.

I run a business and rely on push notifications for email. A couple of weeks ago my push was working fine one day but after about a hour in the middle of the day I noticed I didn't get a email. I opened the email app and a critical sales email come through . Needless to say my business relies on quick response and I lost a deal worth 5,000 in profit because  push mail stopped unknowingly working  for me one day .

Will Apple reimburse me 5 grand ?? Lol . Yeah didn't think so.

I've tried all the fixes, including deleting my cloud account. None of them work . Apple nees to fix the problem or lose

A lot of cloud business . This should be embarrassing  to them but I don't hear a peep from them .

I know that this isn't supposed to be how it works but you can set iCloud to fetch and it will retrieve at the interval which you set. Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars/Fetch New Data/Advanced/iCloud/Fetch (instead of push). Push hasn't worked for me since like forever! Cheers

Yep, I agree, turn off push and at least you'll only wait 15 minutes until your email comes through. Not what I was getting before, but it will have to do for me, for now. Way better than manual which I've had for 4 or 5 days now ...

    I'm having similar problems.

I'm not going to read through all 41 pages to see if this has been mentioned, but FWIW :

There are definitely issues with Location Services and/or wifi being used and/or push and/or Notification Services.

I'm only talking about iCloud mail and other services.

I haven't managed to pin it down (because it's a bug, or more than one bug) but I have noticed in the past, that sometimes it becomes impossible to connect to the internet via Safari (on the iPhone) when I have moved away from wifi and the phone has switched itself over to 3G.  This is definitely an issue.  It may be related or independant.  Annoyingly, it seems to happen when one has moved some distance from the original location ... say 50 miles or so.

Another possibly related issue is with location services and this has become particularly noticeable with the use of the 'Find Friends' app. (Apple's own) which we use often to see where we all are when travelling.  Frequently the updates are only every 30 minutes or even more.  So the Location Services are either not pushing new locations from the Find Friends app., or the server is not asking for them regularly. (I don't know which way it works ... perhaps both).

Then there is the email push problem, which recently seems to go beyond just the Push issue.  2 days ago my wife was travelling and was surprised to have no email during the day (she was travelling on high-speed train ... bad for Location Services??).  She checked her email app., several times during the day but nothing showed up.  Then later that evening, 18 emails appeared from throughout the day.  Now, we can't be sure if the problem was a general email one (her email was not checked on her Mac throughout the day) or specific to the phone, but my feeling is it's iPhone specific (latest iOS on iPhone4).

Lastly, there appears to me to be an issue with certain services, notably Push Services and Airplane Mode.

Anyone else here noticed that switching Airplane Mode OFF in the morning isn't enough to 'kick-start' Push email?  This morning, I switched OFF Airplane Mode, as I do every morning and there was no email sound.  After about 10/15 minutes, I opened up my Mac and saw there was an uread email from during the night.  I went back to my iPhone ... no email unread count and no email notification.  I then sent a test email from my Mac.  No sound alert on the iPhone, but the notification appeared up on the start-screen.  I opened the email in Mail on the Mac and deleted it.  I then sent another from my Mac and this time both the sound alert and the start-screen notification appeared instantly.  I then put the iPhone to sleep and sent another with the same instant alerts.

The conclusion I reached, is that some services are not being re-initialised after Airplane Mode and/or after moving away from a wifi connection.

What I have found that works in the short term is to either :

1/ Reset Network Settings (Settings/General/Reset/Network Settings). Try doing this immediately after turning OFF Airplane Mode and/or after moving away from a wifi connection.  I'm currently running with wifi OFF permanently, to try and pin down if it is indeed playing a role. (Reseting Network Settings will require you to re-enter your wifi password).

2/ If that fails, then try re-starting the iPhone, by holding the Home button for a few seconds, then sliding OFF, then starting up via the start/sleep button.

    Grant
