Q: Push email does not work (iCloud)

Since the update to icloud the push email does not work anymore. Im only talking about the me.com adress no Yahoo oder other Emails. I didnt changed the Mail settings and pushing mails worked fine before the update to icloud.

Example:

When i switched on the phone in the morning the mails i received during the night immediately got pushed to the iphone. That doesnt work anymore. It only receives the mails when i switch to the mail app.

Any suggestions anyone?!?

Im using newest iOS 5 with an iPhone 4S and migrated my old me.com account to iCloud.

It's just so odd that there are some of us who've had this problem since October and they still don't really acknowledge it.

Why is it that we are having this issue?   Why can't engineers working for this incredible company figure it out? Why has it not been reported on by any blogs or press outlets?  Surely, some of THEM must've switched over to iCloud as well and experienced the same problem.

I'm at a loss but, in a weird way, it's comforting to know I'm not alone.

Have you tried to deactivate icloud from your device and reactivate?

    It worked for me.

lsjrlsjr, I really hope you read this message quickly, as Apple is quick to remove anything that is "non productive" from this thread.  Many of us originals (from October) are in the same boat.  All the well meaning posts about removing icloud, and reactivating, and the multitude of other "fixes" are not working.  There is a major glitch, and for many of us, it appears unfixable.  All the geniuses in the world and escalated engineers out there are not making a difference.  Apple, while an incredible company in so many ways, is missing an opportunity to accept that there is a problem, and tackle it head on.  Not sure how this has escaped all of the media.  The one time I tried to rally the troops to make the world aware of this problem, my post was removed.

    Saw it, thanks.

I mean, I don't even REALLY care if blogs, press, whoever get this out.  I think it's absurd that we even have to hope for that.  Those of us who switched over to iCloud in the very beginning were, more than likely, paid MobileMe customers...loyal, long time, MAC customers.

And it wasn't Siri which clearly says "BETA"...it was "iCloud.  It just works."   Not  "It just works...for anyone who didn't switch at the beginning when we suggested you all switch."  That's not the tagline I remember.

It's all so odd.  I don't want to give up the username I've had for years...nor should I have to.

There has got to be a simple fix for this.  Maybe the problem is not as widespread as we think?   But either way, it is clearly affecting more than enough people for it to have be addressed by now.  I've been to different Genius Bars where they've told me they have heard the complaints, they've even personally experienced the issue...so it's definitely out there.

But how do you get it resolved?   Everything else is great for me.  iCal changes happen on all devices.  But PUSH MAIL is something we all rely on...especially so you don't have to be that obnoxious person opening your Mail App every ten minutes to see if you've gotten an important message.  Tried setting to FETCH, doesn't solve it.

Will the end of June bring a solution?  Who knows...but nine months of waiting would surely have been long enough.

    SIMPLE FIX.

The real issue is that when you moved to iCloud, you moved your email to the new server. However, your computer/devices are still trying to find your email where it no longer exists. It's kind of like changing PO Boxes, but you keep looking to your old PO Box for your mail.

Change your server information on your computer. When you do that (and sync your iPhone or iPad), this will fix the issue.

    OLD SERVER:

    mail.me.com

    NEW SERVER:

    incoming: imap.mail.me.com

    outgoing: smtp.mail.me.com

iCloud is an imap service only because the intent is to keep all your devices in sync... instead of having to delete the same freaking emails on your computer when you've already deleted it from your iPhone.

No, this isn't the issue we've been having. At all.

does anyone else notice their battery life being relatively "too good" given that push is active.

When my mobileme was working smoothly, push on, battery life was noticeably reduced than when push off/ fetch.

Now with this push failure, my battery life (ip4S) is decent, similar to push being off/ fetch.

I believe the server is losing its "connection" to our devices, booting us out of the cue, and forgetting the device......ergo no pushed emails to device.

Why it does that is the job of the highly paid engineers to figure out!!!

You're saying this would help fix the "NO PUSH E-MAIL to iOS DEVICES" issue?  That doesn't seem right.  Mail is being pushed to MAC MAIL on laptops/desktops.  In my case, it just doesn't push to iOS devices like the iPhone/iPad.  And when it's deleted on one device, it does delete in the other areas.  The only problem seems to be 'receiving' PUSH e-mail on the iPhone.

been told that mail on lion/ snow leopard...etc (desktop) is NOT true push mail!! Its a pull/ fetch.

Same case with me, that push failure with iOS devices only.

Try this...send yourself an email...if and when it doesnt push to ios device, then use find my phone function immediately, before opening mail . See if your ios device is found???

To still be having this iOS mail push debacle for eight straight consecutive months and just two days before the latest WWDC is set to launch is the strangest of strange happenings.  Mail push on my iOS device, an iPhone 4 running on 5.1.1, has gone fishing again for, what, about two weeks now.  It's been on and off and on and off and on and off again for months on end.  I have deleted my iCloud account (take note, I was never once on MobileMe so the lame excuse of migration does not apply to me) at least three times in the past and as late as last month and that didn't make a dent in rectifying or improving mail push performance.  Let's all hope that iOS 6 will be the answer.  Has to be.
