    OMG thanks so much! I wasn't porting but I passed on my iPhone 4 to my non-work SIM & I wasn't getting messages on my work SIM. Checking, my work # was still stored in the 4. I've changed now so reckon that's in the past! Thanks mate

    Thanks for posting these fixes. In the UK, I've ported my number from Tesco to 3. Simply turning off Facetime and then reactivating updated the number to the ported number.

    Thanks for this, just been on the phone to Tesco mobile and they didnt know the answer why I couldnt change my number. After searching on the web it took me 2 mins to sort out!

    Does not work for me

    I have 2 iphones that both had temporary numbers and following that trick worked for one of my phones but not for the other....


    I literally dont have FACETIME in my settings, so theres no way i can switch it off, and when i unable then reable imessage i tries and failes to activate my old number... why doesnt it see my new number?? The one i manually set in my phone settings (I have a 3Gs so I can change it manually)...


    Please help this is driving me nuts!!

    Hi i had the same prob on my new iphone 4s imported my old number and the new number stayed lol , but just done the as instructed and wahay it worked my old number is now on itunes and my apps on my phone Tyvm for your help nice 1

    I have 4S on Sprint. and I also tried the above.  I was in the same situation as you: imessage and facetime updated but my number still shows temp #.  Then,  I googled and found this:

    I'm always sketchy on internet fixes that I'm not sure on the validity of. Never heard of before, but I gave it a whirl after checking everything out. It worked just like it said. One note, I did have to power off and power up the phone again after the process to force it to find service again.


    Here's my particular situation for reference sake:


    I was an iPhone 3G user on AT&T. I switched carriers to Sprint, so needed to get a Sprint capable iPhone, so ordered a new 4S. I still wanted to keep my old number as I've had it for 10 years. Once the new 4S arrived, Sprint was able to port over my old number from AT&T (for reference 111-111-1111) to replace the number given to the 4S at shipping (555-555-5555). I backed up and transferred purchases from my old 3G to iTunes, then restored my new 4S from the backup created. All my contacts, Email settings, messages, Emails, and apps were correctly transferred.


    All was seemingly fine as I was getting calls and texts, making calls and texts. I replied to a text from a contact a few days later, and he didn't recognize the number. Seems when I replied the old number (555-555-5555) showed in the "From". Upon further research others reported sometimes getting texts or calls from me showing the 555-555-5555 number. iMessage showed my old number (111-111-1111) as did facetime. Phone> settings> my number> showed the 555 number I didn't want. Sprint couldn't even figure it out..


    So here's the fix:


    1. From your Sprint iPhone 4s, dial ##873283#
    2. A pop-up window will open, hit OK to start service update.
    3. Another pop-up will open shortly, "Service Update Complete", Hit "Done"
    4. Power cycle your iPhone 4s. You're now done. All should be fixed.


    Do not try this if you are not using Sprint as your carrier without verifying it works on other carriers. It may well be a carrier specific code.


    I shared this fix with the Sprint techs, so that maybe next time someone calls with this issue they can get it right the first time.

    Thanks for this, it worked on my phone but not my husbands - he now has the right number on imessage and facetime but still shows the wrong number in "My Number" under settings phone


    Any ideas?

    I've got the same problem as you jjo54321; I've got the correct number in iMessage and FaceTime, but the wrong number in 'My Number' which appears in the 'Phone' part of Settings and at the top of the Contacts list in the Phone App.


    I've tried the following, all with no success;


    1. Turned off iMessage & FaceTime, hard reboot of the iPhone, turned them back on again. No joy. iPhone registers my correct number in iMessage & FaceTime, but not in the 'My Number' bit of the iPhone.
    2. Restored my iPhone using iTunes 10.6 from a local backup. No joy.
    3. Removed my SIM, turned off iMessage & FaceTime, hard rebooted and re-inserted SIM. No joy.


    It's driving me crazy. If anyone has a solution or suggestion I'm all ears...


    FWIW I'm in the UK on the Three network. The incorrect number my iPhone is displaying is the temporary number given to me by Three when I moved over from O2 in January 2012. I had the temporary number for less than a day before my old number was ported over. Now it looks like it's here to stay unless someone has a fix?

    Really odd bought two Iphone 4s both numbers ported from Orange to Three in less than one day - one handset has the right number everywhere - the other one is as you described above - I have tried everything including resetting phone.  Someone suggested putting sim in another phone (not an iphone) and editing "my number" on that phone and reinserting it - I cant do that as I don;t have another phone that the sim will work in.

    Hi Jamie. I'm in the US with Sprint, and I know you're in the UK under 3. From what I discovered talking to my support techs, the fix I described above may work on your iPhones as well. I didn't see in your list that procedure, so I might suggest you talk to your support techs first to confirm the code is correct for UK versions. Here's my procedure again:


    So here's the fix:


    1. From your Sprint iPhone 4s, dial ##873283#
    2. A pop-up window will open, hit OK to "Start Service Update".
    3. Another pop-up will open shortly, "Service Update Complete", Hit "Done"
    4. Power cycle your iPhone 4s. You're now done. All should be fixed.


    This worked flawlessly for me. Let me know if it does for you, or if it doesn't. You may have tried this, but I didn't see it listed in your message.

    Again, I'm in the US under Sprint. But conditions were the same, porting from an old carrier. You may refer to your service techs to confirm the code is the same in the UK, but from what I've gathered it is.
