i received this after my update (iOS5) via iTunes error -402636789. What gives can anyone clue me in ? After i restart same issue. Then when i connect my iPhone4 again, Sytem Keeps Restoring ALL 160 Apps and no songs on my 16GB ? Can anyone lend out a helping hand ? i'm not sure if i should restore and start over again...ugh this is totally wack 😐😟 !!

I'm having the same issue with my iPad1. Transferring purchases only transfers apps, and iTunes tells me in order to complete my update I will have to lose all my data first as back up will not work.
The error again is -402636789.

For me, it turned out that my cable had gotten loose during the restore! Replugged securely into iPad jack and it synced fine. I sincerely hope it turns out to be as simple as that for others getting this error.
Same here, why aren't Apple addressing any of the problems people are having with this? I have done everything, reinstalled itunes (twice), changed the directory itunes uses, updated rdivers, everything. I even went to the shop who admitted that many people are having this issue, on one thread on here there are nearly 50,000 people who cannot update to iOS5, but they can't do anything about it.
