Jun 8, 2014 9:53 AM in response to Superjimby tercules,Another thanks from me. Got a new phone number/contract for my iphone, and imessages were only coming thru on my wifi ipad... none on phone. Additionally, texts sent from my ipad were coming across to my friends as coming from my old, dead phone number. I assumed it was because they hadn't updated my contact with new number but, after searching and reading your post, when I went into imessage settings in my phone it said "not verified".
Turned imessage off and then back on, it instantly validated the new number, and automatically updated the ipad.
Thanks again.

Aug 12, 2014 4:31 PM in response to Superjimby lukescarpenter,I have an iphone 5 that I used with AT&T in the states. I moved to Uruguay a few weeks ago and had no problems using imessage until I bought a SIM card from a local carrier and inserted it. My iMessage number changed to the new Uruguayan number but when I put my AT&T SIM back in I can't change the number associated with iMessage. I've tried everything on these forums but even when I successfully log in, it says "waiting for activation" and in the Send & Receive > you can be reached by iMessage at pane it shows my email address ticked and the Uruguayan number in a lighter shade and unticked. I'm using my AT&T SIM and I have international service.
Ideas?

Yes, the problem has been fixed.
Settings > Messages - iMessage to Off then back on.

May 15, 2015 8:25 AM in response to something2seaby motzya07,I had a new SIM card and new carrier, and even though I had changed my phone number on my account, it didn't register in Settings/Messages/Send & Receive. Turning off iMessages, then turning phone off to reset fixed the problem. New number now shows.

I purchased my iPhone six used, and I couldn't get rid of the previous owner's phone number in the iMessage settings.
Your solution worked 100%.
Thank you for taking the time to post this.
I have searched Google for weeks until I found your answer.
Much obliged.

" i had tried all of the solutions in various combinations.
I contacted the Apple Store in Aberdeen and got the following:
- Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Click on Apple ID and choose sign out.
- Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
- Return to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Click on the Apple ID and sign in with you iCloud/iTunes account.
Follow this exact order and it worked first time for me. "

Nov 26, 2015 5:28 AM in response to Superjimby gabrielfromnowhere,FYI,
I was facing that same issue where I could not get rid of my old number in iMessage and FaceTime.
After I tried everything I could find on the web, I just gave up.
Then, today, 4 days after I last tried, the number magically changed to my new one.
Thing is that I don't believe in magic.
So my conclusion is the system is working but just extremely slow, and the 24hours delay apple claims to be the max one should wait, is far from accurate.
Good luck all!
Gabriel
